Of late there has only been one change in OFX imports that I can identify and this is to handle bad dates in the file:

Handle bad dates properly when reading OFX (with default values upon formatting/parsing errors) Errors like:

java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "R"

This can be caused when there are entries in a ofx file like:

R
R

There has been no changes in the OFX specification for quite some time. The most recent spec is from 2017, so changes in Moneydance handling have been driven by the financial institutions making changes to their OFX files, like the example given above.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-10T02:33:09Z2020-12-10T02:33:09ZCapitol One Bank downloads

just a user - when you say "would not load" - do you get an error message?

Does nothing happen?

You mention the "MD import function" - Is that from "File Import" or the "Import List" extension?

Information always helps diagnose.

Hope that helps.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-10T02:38:19Z2020-12-10T02:38:19ZCapitol One Bank downloads

Ultimately if you can provide an example OFX file that does not load it provides something to work with.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-10T20:49:42Z2020-12-10T20:49:43ZCapitol One Bank downloads

I recently upgraded to MD: Version 2021 (2012).

The procedure I have used to load transactions from Capitol Bank into MD was to download specific transactions using a QFX format and then use the MD File Import function to import that QFX file into the above version of MD. Until this week, the transactions from the QFX file were automatically entered into the correct MD account. But now when I use the MD File button and specify the QFX file (see below) to import nothing happens and no error message. Note that this is a QFX format not OFX.

Thanks for any assistance on this matter.

standab45tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-10T21:04:22Z2020-12-10T21:04:22ZCapitol One Bank downloads

I'm a fellow user.

The different between a QFX and a OFX file is that QFX has one or more Quicken specific fields. In this case17410

Yes this file does not load, but in taking a closer look it only seems to contain a balance, I do not see any transactions in the file, so there is nothing to load.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-11T21:14:09Z2020-12-11T21:14:10ZCapitol One Bank downloads

I just spent an hour on the phone with the tech support from Capitol One bank. They said they have not had any issues with the QFX format download for other customers. The other options for transaction downloads from Capitol One Bank are CSV and QBO and neither, I believe, work with MD. Capitol One only works with Quicken as a 3rd party financial software. SO they think the issue is with MD and I need to resolve the issue with MD support. Kind of a classic case of blaming each other and I am in the middle.

My concern is that somehow during my MD upgrade to Version 2021 (2012) I have lost the FILE-> Import download function using the QFX format. Could you please send me a printable file of the QFX transactions file that I am attaching below. According to the e-mail below, this file only contains a balance and not the individual transactions and therefore MD will not enter any data into the account I have open.

I look forward to resolving this issue quickly. Thank-you.

standab45tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-11T21:59:35Z2020-12-11T21:59:35ZCapitol One Bank downloads

Moneydance can import CSV files into Bank accounts. QBO files are specifically for Quickbooks.

Open the QFX file in a text editor or word processor it is just a text file at the end of the day, and you can see for yourself what is in the file.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-11T22:01:17Z2020-12-11T22:01:17ZCapitol One Bank downloads

just a user here, since I have no skin in the game, (I'm not CO, in the middle, or MD) let's try to break it down.

My impression is this is the process you use:

1) You go to Capitol One, they allow you to download a QFX file for your account.

2) You go to Moneydance, they have a facility for you to File/Import that QFX file.

3) It has worked for you for quite some time. But now, it doesn't work.

4) You think it might be the 2021(2012) version causing the problem. If so, what was your previous version? As long as it was 2017 or later, you should be able to go the previous versions page and move back to it and try that, to show whether it was the upgrade or not. (Given the file, I don't think you will find anything useful other than it was not the upgrade)

5) The file itself does seem to have no transactions, just a balance. So, first - what transactions do you expect? Do you have a list of transactions you expect to download? That would be of interest - you could then ask Capitol One why your QFX file doesn't contain that data. (And you should say you are a Quicken client, because if you are manually downloading that data, the same thing would be happening in Quicken - Quicken can't suddenly make your transactions appear from that file.)

6) Here's what I get from your QFX file:

<?OFX OFXHEADER="200" VERSION="202" SECURITY="NONE" OLDFILEUID="NONE" NEWFILEUID="NONE"?>
0
INFO20201211201355.743ENGCapital One Bank1001174100
0
INFOUSD0311761103669CHECKING20201121000000.00020201202000000.00024828.3520201211201355.743

I'd assume that is printable for you.

Hope that helps.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-11T22:15:24Z2020-12-11T22:15:24ZCapitol One Bank downloads

Oh, one more point - I assume since this is a manual download, you imput a set of dates you want the QFX file to contain. Could that be wrong somehow and missing the data you want?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488928032020-12-12T21:30:29Z2020-12-12T21:30:30ZCapitol One Bank downloads

To everyone who has taken time to dissect my download issue with Capitol One Bank, I’m sorry for your time-consuming effort to help resolve my problem which would have been avoided if Capitol One had properly communicated changes in their banking security. Unbeknownst to me, my old checking account had been closed and replaced with a new account with the same login and account number as of Dec. 3—hence the transactions download I requested for the dates from Nov. 21 to Dec. 2, 2020 came up empty, just as you pointed out several times. However, I did learn something about download formats.
Thanks everyone.
