Batch moving transactions to a new account (online banking issue) - was remove one service python
I have two chase accounts that are quite recalcitrant in logging in correctly. I wanted to totally reset them as disable reenable still don't let me put in a correct login id.
Over months, I kept seeing remove one service as a solution to problematic online banking bits. But as I look at it today, it really seems a way to remove a selection from the drop down list of available banks.
Ok, fine, but if so, that doesn't help me. And honestly, if I'm understanding it correctly, it seems not very useful. I mean, if you don't want an entry in the drop down list, just why don't you just ignore it?
So, I'm confused. I'm trying to get my last two accounts to work with Chase and wanted to "totally blow them away" as disable, new, etc, just are not working.
Help me out here - I'm not uneducated, but now i don't understand the purpose of remove one service, when I thought I did.

To go beyond the first question, I have two accounts left, the login id is often wrong, but i correct it, type in the password, and wait for the account numbers to populate. I then pick the correct one, (most of the others already work, I don't want to touch those!) and moneydance says ready.
But when I say "go download", I get a 2003 error, of account not found.
Not knowing what else to do, I recycle and repeat. (Disable, new, or maybe try picking from the list, yadayada.
I suspect something is wrong "underlying" specificially in the wrong login id (as I have four for Chase), but I am simply stumped.

And yes, I got it working last February after a lot of "I don't really get what I did, but now it works."
And it was about login ids with Chase.

Ok, I do know how to test.
I created a new credit card, called Test Account, and set up online banking. It indeed already had one of the four login accounts "built in", but I went with it for the test. It happened to be the login id where one of the two accounts were still not working.
I picked the "not working" credit card, and bing - worked like a charm. No 2003 account not found error.
A little too tired tonight to see if I can invoke the login id for the second account.
Still - something is not right here. Nor was it right in February.
Sure, abandon the old account, batch transfer everything, and move on. Solves one of the two. Would have to diagnose/experiment with #two as well.
Bottom line - I shouldn't have to be doing this. Thoughts?

Ok, With quite a bit of work (batch transfers, etc.) I can probably be whole again.
I did the second account, which gave me the wrong login id, but I changed it to the correct id, got the recalcitrant account, and it downloaded.
BIG reveal - it worked, but made me put in the password twice (i.e. on setup, then first login) I have to believe that is somewhat significant.
Again - I have no idea what "corrupted" the original accounts, but something is wrong.,

So, to anyone who read this, here are my next steps to workaround the fact that two accounts can't login.
Batch transfer all transactions from account 1 to test account 1.
Batch transfer all transactions from account 2 to test account 2.
Delete the NEW test transactions, since the original account should have the internal id not to redownload... yes normally it is the opposite.
Once it appears everything is working again, delete the original accounts which are now empty (and somehow have online banking problems).
Rename test to real.
Any frying pan into the fire bits here? This seems like it would work vs. continuing to bank my head against the wall trying to get these two accounts to work.
Thoughts appreciated.

Hi dtd,
You've obviously already activated your accounts and proved your identity with Chase
Since the original issue seemed to be with Chase not accepting your credentials. I might have started with the 'Forget Online Passwords' menu item listed under Moneydance's Online menu.
Your workaround is viable. Granted, you should not have to do any of this and it should all just work but life in the world of 1's and 0's is not always what one can expect. Hiccups, corruption, Chace changing OFX server settings (they certainly have been found guilty of changing QIF parameters) any or all of the above is what we're all faced with.
As a Chace Visa client, (2 accounts) I have found Chase to be one of the more stable OFX connections to Moneydance.
Fidelity can be flaky on the weekends.
Regions Bank cuts off their connection after 2 of my 4 accounts downloads. "The connection has timed-out."
I doubt that your original issue was anything to do with something that you did or a flaw in Moneydance. It's just the way things 'work' when I.T. guys in the financial industry start getting inventive.

Well, first, it appears to have worked and I am "whole" again.
I find most of your post totally valid, but I disagree with this part:
I doubt that your original issue was anything to do with something that you did or a flaw in Moneydance. It's just the way things 'work' when I.T. guys in the financial industry start getting inventive.
I think this IS a flaw in Moneydance, but I can't get into the internals enough to determine why or how. If all it takes is creating a new account, putting in the login/password and everything is peachy keen, (i.e. Chase is very willing to give me the data if I just have login/password correct), then those other "older accounts" must have something wrong within them if they'd worked before, but after forget all passwords, one cannot put in a proper login/password combination to be recognized as valid.
That said 38/40 (approximate) worked fine, but as in February, there seems to be something about having four Chase login ids and such that keeps some of these from working properly. I got it to work (finally) in February, but couldn't get these two to work now.
Still, just creating new "fresh" accounts - boom everything worked, move all transactions over, delete the older accounts, and move on.
As you say, I shouldn't have to do this - but my assertion is that it is something in Moneydance, not the capriciousness (and there is a lot) of the Chase financial institution - IN THIS CASE.

My suspicion is that there is some information attached to the account that is not being reset, this is one of the things the remove one service script is supposed to do - forced removal of the associated account/bank information from an account in Moneydance.

Well, that's my basic question from the start - would removing Chase with the python script remove all my Chase account info, or just the one or two I pick (I have about 12 chase accounts, and 10 worked) (estimate)
I guess I still don't understand exactly what that python script does.

Hi, as mentioned, my Toolbox should show you the internals. When ready, DM me and we can work on this to see if anything else needs adding.
