Greetings:

2 days ago I began receiving this error and transactions for the bank will not download. I removed the account number for privacy. Any suggestions?

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

Bank Name: State Employees Credit Union - NC
Account: CU Checking
Account Number: XXXXXXXX

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.

Anyone else having problems again? This morning I received the following (buried deep in the Console Messages):

The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator.<br/><br/>

    and a bit below that:

    <a href='javascript:history.back();'>[Go Back]</a>uh oh, we've gotten some OFX with no headers: <style type='text/css'>

Yes transactions once again won’t download. I’m done with this struggle. This constantly gives me grief and takes up way too much time. I bought Quicken yesterday. My life is instantly easier.

There's also activity today in the quicken thread referenced somewhere above (https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7881499/state-employees-credit-union-nc-ol-220-a-errors/p9):

    >After a second failed attempt, I saw that Quicken had issued a program update. After completing this update, direct connect with ncsecu >now works, at least right now.

Just checked and my accounts are downloading again. Seems to be no pattern on what is going on.

I'm trying to get NC SECU transaction downloads to work from within Moneydance after months of it not working. @Stuart Beesley , way back in post 39 of this thread, kindly posted a solution, but the "NC SECU" specific links in that post aren't working any more, and his "useful_scripts" collection doesn't seem to have any NC SECU information in it.

Can anyone point me to information on how to get my MD working with NC SECU again?

IK/Moneydance, implemented Stuart's solution into Moneydance in late March, so you don't need Stuart's part anymore, which is why he decommisioned it.

So, if it is not working, try disabling and re-enabling the connection (that might make it use the new methodology).

That said, in reading recent posts, NCSECU is very flaky, it seems to go up, down, up, and down.

So, basically, you have to juggle at least two balls, making sure you have the new connection method in place, and having NCSECU working.

After mostly not working for about two weeks I've had transactions download without issues the last three days. It comes and goes...

Thanks for the responses. I've tried downloading transactions from NC SECU several times over the last few days, with no successes. I get this error as soon as I attempt the download:

"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

Bank Name: State Employees Credit Union - NC
    Account: (Account name)
    Account Number: (Account number)

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
    Error Description: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Connection reset"

The console log shows it failing to get a sig file from IK at the beginning of a download attempt:

    ...
    > GET https://infinitekind.com/app/md/fis/57dd89e6-1226-4a4c-b658-b5fe133bbbc8.sig
     <<HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

java.lang.Exception: Got non-OK response when querying FI info: 404
    ...

then it goes on to try to do an OFX transaction with NC SECU:

    ...
connecting to: https://onlineaccess.ncsecu.org/secuofx/secu.ofx with method: POST
     remote address:onlineaccess.ncsecu.org/216.76.60.171:443
    ...

which apparently fails with an SSL exception:

    ...
    ---end headers
    javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Connection reset
    ...

I have no idea if that's helpful...

The 404 implies you are using a custom profile... By any chance are you using my custom profile from my script? I don't think this is a problem... NCSECU has been erratic.. Perhaps try again later/tomorrow?

Thanks Stuart. I never got around to running your script, and I don't recall ever doing anything like a custom profile. I just installed the latest version of MD, though I didn't remove the old version first.

if you go into online setup and click the dropdown, what's the name of the NCSECU profile? Perhaps send a SS..?

... looks OK.. I suspect another profile is causing the 404.... Perhaps restart MD. Help>Open console. Leave it open, then download all.. See what other info is in the console before the 404... Last time I saw this, a user had an old profile installed that had been decommissioned, or a manually setup profile...

    NCSECU's current response:

We apologize for the inconvenience. SECU takes the online security of its members' accounts very seriously. It appears that the technology used by 3rd party systems to try to access your SECU accounts is not passing our online security checks.

We are investigating alternative ways to provide access to financial 3rd party systems such as aggregators that still meet our security standards. Please note that in order to ensure the security and integrity of your data, the work to establish a secure connection will likely take some time to complete.

This has been happening off and on for months, so I have no faith that it will really be resolved.

I did get my transactions to download from NCSECU mid-June, but today, end of July, the download fails again.

    Hi All,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are actively working on this and hope to have a solution soon. I can't yet say what it is or when it will be available, but it is our very top priority and it shouldn't be more than a month.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Thanks Sean. I tested this again today; still no dice (and no download).

    Hello Support Staff,
Any update on getting the downloads to resume for NCSECU? It has been going on for quite some time now which is discouraging. Had really hoped you would have found a solution for your users.

Sadly looks like the solution for the NCSECU problem is to share our personal data with Plaid.

This sacrifices one of Moneydance's most significant features, which is a privacy friendly non-cloud based bank syncing. Seems like a big change. The biggest reason I picked Moneydance was because of their stance on privacy - that stance is erroded when you partner with Plaid or any of the other data aggregators.

    Hi cgrinds,

We will continue to work on getting NCSECU connecting using the direct OFX approach which doesn't require using Plaid, but we've reluctantly realised that we also need to provide the option of using an aggregator to our customers. I'll be posting more details about this decision and the implications, but I wanted to give you a quick summary here.

Multiple major banks have contacted us to indicate that they are moving away from OFX and will eventually stop running their servers. We have met with many of them about alternative methods of connecting and even joined as full members of the Financial Data Exchange (FDX: https://financialdataexchange.org). We were clear that our preference is for Moneydance, on your computer, to connect directly to their services, avoiding any "middle men" or aggregators, as they are called.

I was shocked to hear from the banks that they wanted us to use the aggregators and that if we wanted to connect directly to them then there would be an indeterminate delay on being allowed to do so. Many months later, we're still waiting. That's another thing about the newer protocols like FDX or the EU and UK's Open Banking initiatives - they are more secure, but clients usually need to be registered and authorised to connect, so we would need explicit approval from each bank and it was clear that that approval was not going to be easy to get. I don't really blame the banks, as it is so much easier for them to deal with a few major aggregators rather than hundreds or thousands of different software vendors.

We will still push for and implement direct connections to as many banks as possible, and we will never drop support for direct connections as long as even a single bank runs an OFX server, but if Moneydance customers want to download their transactions, it's clear that this is the only way to provide that option for the vast majority of banks.

I'll be honest: using an aggregator does have privacy implications in that customer transaction data (descriptions amounts, and sometimes additional metadata) goes through the aggregators' servers. On the other hand, the security is often much better than with OFX in that for many banks you will authenticate directly with the bank, including using 2-factor authentication. The aggregators and Moneydance are granted a token that provides access for a certain period of time. In those cases neither Moneydance nor the aggregator will have your password and often not even your username. For connections through Plaid, even Moneydance has no idea of your name, password, or other login credentials.

We chose Plaid specifically for their better privacy policy regarding end-user data. They do not share or distribute your data in any way according to the people we've talked to there as well as their privacy policy which you can find here: https://plaid.com/legal/#end-user-privacy-policy

I will reiterate that we will never force anyone to use the aggregation. We will never require a subscription to use Moneydance and the current direct OFX connections. We will continue to look for and implement more direct ways to connect to banks while preserving your privacy.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Thank you Sean, good message.
It should be front and center, though, vs. just about NCSECU.

So, it the bottom line that in order to access NCSECU data (and I'm guessing others in the future) is to upgrade Moneydance?

    Hi Terry,

That is certainly the most reliable way to access NCSECU, unless they fix the problem with their OFX server. Personally I doubt they will fix the issue with the OFX server because in the past couple of years banks have been phasing out those servers.

    Thanks,
    Sean

So, Sean, is a new version of Moneydance (with NCSECU) “auto download” now
    available?
