Investment Account Default Category

I am currently evaluating Moneydance 2015 (Mac OS) and successfully set up online access to a credit card and investment account. I selected "Default" as the Default Category for each account. When I download the credit card transactions they are categorized correctly to "Default", but when I download investment register transactions, they are categorized as "Visa". I have tried selecting other default categories for this account with the same results. Since "Visa" is the credit card account, the downloaded transactions are treated as transfers and therefore mess up the credit card balance until they are recategorized. Is this a known issue?

    Hello,

That is quite strange. Is there a previous confirmed transaction similar to the ones you are downloading that has Visa as the category? What may be happening is that Moneydance is seeing this previously confirmed transaction, and is then reasoning that all similar transactions should have the same category. If so, editing this previous transaction to have a different category (if it is incorrect) or confirming a few new similar looking transactions with the correct category should cause Moneydance to start suggesting a different category upon downloading new transactions.

If that doesn't address the issue, can you please let me know the specific version of Moneydance 2015 you are using? Help -> Console Window from the Moneydance menu bar.

    Ethan,

Thank you for the reply. There are no transactions confirmed or entered with this category in the investment account. Here's what I have tried so far:
    1. Deleted the account, recreated it and selected "Default" as the Default Category. Entered 1 transaction manually with a different category before downloading.
    2. Changed the "Default" category to Income
    3. Made account "Visa" inactive
None of these were successful. Just guessing here, but it seems like it's selecting the first category in the list (even if it's inactive).

This behavior is only for downloaded transactions. If I select New Transaction, it does autofill the "Default" category correctly.

    Ethan,

I replied via the discussion forum, but wasn’t sure if that reached you in the same manner. Please see below for my response. Since that time I have added a new account “Cash” and this has now become the default import category for the investment register. This confirms my hunch that the first category in the list is being selected.

I have this exact same issue with Investment accounts. Using MD on a Mac as well. There are no prior transactions to compare it to so it is not matching prior categories for the transactions. It seems to pick the first Account in the list of Accounts as the default category for Investment Account downloaded transactions.
