Moneydance+ Plaid & USAA

I signed up for Moneydance+ because I was under the impression from the blog post (Overall, we believe the security of an aggregated system is better than OFX due to the ability to use 2-factor authentication) that Plaid would solve the two factor authentication problems with USAA and allow me to download account data. When I went to log into USAA, it says that Plaid is not compatible with 2 factor authentication. Am I missing something?

Just wanted to check in on the above. I will need to cancel Moneydance+ without really even being able to use it during the trial.

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for your message and I'm sorry about the problem getting connected to USAA. For most banks Plaid is able to connect even with 2-factor authentication, so I'm not sure why it's unable to connect o Plaid in this situation. With the access I have to Plaid's error logs I see the error code MFA_NOT_SUPPORTED and message "this account requires a MFA type that we do not currently support for the institution".

I will submit a request to Plaid to fix this and to work with the multi-factor authentication that is in use. Can you let me know what kind of MFA you are trying to use? Would USAA normally send you an SMS/text message, or do you have an authentication token-generating app, or maybe the kind where you click a link in an email? If we know the kind of MFA that USAA requires on your account then I'm hopeful that Plaid will be able to add support for it.

Thank you for your response. I use the Symantec VIP credential ID app. A couple questions as I am new to using anything Plaid related. I noticed Plaid as their own website, should I be setting up some sort of account with them also? When I click on add account in Moneydance, the site that it redirects me to is asking for "Online ID", "PIN" and "Password". This isn't something that USAA itself asks for, so is there a chance that the nomenclature doesn't match? For example, USAA only asks for "Online ID" & "PIN + Token," so I assumed that the latter would all be part of PIN on Plaid, but I don't need to enter my password for USAA, so could that be the holdup?

Just wanted to check in again in the new year and see if there has been any movement.

    just a user

The OFX approach still works with USAA... with about 20 minutes of work.

That said, I will agree that USAA and Plaid don't seem to play in the sandbox together very well - I have found many people unable to use USAA within Moneydance+, and that it should be made to work properly.

I'm moving to MD+ only for the items where I MUST move (and I'm still waiting for Schwab investments to work), which is why I'm glad I can still use USAA downloads via OFX with Moneydance.
