In Moneydance the "Beginning Statement Balance" is a calculated value based on the transactions that are in Moneydance, it is not a closing statement balance as such.

The calculation that Moneydance performs is:

Initial Balance of the Account + Cleared Deposits - Cleared Payments

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495387282021-12-10T12:54:25Z2021-12-10T12:54:25ZReconcile issue

Certainly I agree with you - but my MD "calculated" beginning balance value is ALWAYS identical to the ending balance, not ever any other beginning balance value. I can live with this if I have to, but it is seems odd, and I don't think the intended 'beginning balance' every time. Thank you!

The knowledge base has an article on reconciliation and at the end talks about this.

https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/register-and-transactions/rec...

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495387282021-12-11T13:15:36Z2021-12-11T13:15:36ZReconcile issue

Thank you for your input. In my case the article you kindly mentioned does not apply, because the END balance of bank and the End balance of MD indeed DO MATCH! Thus there is no "reconcile discrepancy" . My only issue is that to get to an equal END balance with the bank, MD displays the period beginning balance that is different from the bank beginning balance. The MD beginning balance is ALWAYS the same as period Ending balance. The bank's beginning balance is indeed whatever the balance was at the conclusion of the previous month's reconciliation. So even though I end up with a matching ending balance to reconcile, I don't think it is right to get there from different beginning balances - especially when one (MD's) is always the same as the ending balance.
I very much appreciate your thoughts and interest. Peter

psilversmith
