I asked Sean once if he could extend the CSV importer for MD to allow for investment type items. He said this might be doable, but obviously other things have been in the way (I asked the question in Nov 2020 when Schwab shut things down the first time).

I have not found any free converters for these type of files, and those mentioned usually are "bank only". If you click and click - they are almost always "bank only".

I did see one mentioned by someone here (for pay) - and they did appear to have (two different packages) one that would work for banks, and one that would work for investment accounts. Not real expensive, but I haven't pursued it as I was hoping that MD+ would have supported investment accounts by now.

So, at the moment I'm still waiting, but that's about all I've found. If anyone knows any other converters for investments, (or has tested them), I'm all ears.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495724082021-12-31T03:13:12Z2021-12-31T03:13:12ZDownloading Schwab transactions

They do appear to have a free trial (unknown length) and it is a windows app.

I may try it with a virtual machine, as I use a mac. (and would make continued long term use an issue for me)

But if anyone else has better suggestions - again, open to hearing them.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495724082021-12-31T03:31:01Z2021-12-31T21:34:54ZDownloading Schwab transactions

I like to test so went to download the free trial.

CSV files will import into non-investment accounts using the inbuilt CSV import function or the user written CSV Importer provided they have a consistent table format.

Investment accounts are another story however and that is because of the way they work, they are not a simple table structure like the other account type, the content and active fields is driven by the action field, with their only being a small number of valid actions which also drives which fields have mandatory data and which is optional.

The only CSV files that I have seen that go close to being able to converted into files suitable for importing into Investment Accounts are those produced by other financial software, in my case it was Reckon/Quicken and they were even not quite right and required some programming to reformat them.

The CSV files provided by the Investment house I use do not even come close to being usable. I think it would require significant programming to parse each line and restructure it, given the information provided by them I think it would have to be a custom bit of programming for that specific investment house and the specific investment.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495724082021-12-31T21:52:27Z2021-12-31T21:52:27ZDownloading Schwab transactions

Which is one reason I'm a bit wary of approaching this investment converter from icreateofx, especially given malwarebytes message.
