Download Problems between MoneyDance and Bank

I am still having the same problem with bad data each time I do manual bank download. I am not using Direct Connect. I am downloading a qfx file. There are no error messages. My bank is Equity Bank. I get all the correct information from the bank plus about 20 incorrect items. For example, I write checks to my family members a gifts. These all come across correctly from the bank. I also get several transactions that are for the gifting amount, but no check number, and they are bad data. Each time I do a download I have to go through my transactions and delete the incorrect ones. Some are dated with recent dates and others are older. Is there a fix for these incorrect transactions? At one point I started over with Moneydance thinking this might help, but, the problem showed up with this account. I am using version 2021.1 (3069)

That sounds like your bank is sending a misformatted QFX file. Moneydance can only work with the information that is contained in the files. If you open the file with a text editor, can you find the misformatted transactions in there? Alternatively, you could post a selection of the file here, but keep in mind you've started a public thread.

I think this is one of the bad transmissions:

The following is the data set from MoneyDance:

How do you fix a misformatted QFX that is coming from your bank?

Looking at the data set from MoneyDance above, the Check # is 195. When this transaction shows up on the ledger in MD, there is no check number. Check #195 was already used on a different transaction.

At this point I just want to know if there is a way to resolve this problem, or do I have to keep wasting time finding and deleting the bad data?

    just a user

Given the data is given to you by the bank, MD can only deal with it by assuming it is valid. If it is not valid, you need to contact your bank to see if they will fix the bad data transmissions they send to Moneydance.

The only other thing I can think of is that I've seen where Moneydance will store old transaction history and keep regurgitating it. So that might be the problem as well. There is an extension called "Toolbox" which fixes all sorts of things, and if I remember correctly, getting rid of stale transaction records is one of them - but I'm not totally sure which command that is.

Hope that helps provide a direction.
