As a general rule CSV data can be imported to Credit Card and Bank type accounts. CSV data cannot however be imported into Investment type accounts.

I'm not a USAA client and cannot speak to the import issue.

I have been downloading/importing USAA for almost a year now with no problems.

If you are willing to use the Toolbox extension, you can probably OFX download USAA within 20 minutes (and that includes getting proper username/password from USAA)...

If you mean Moneydance+ downloads, I haven't done them (since OFX works), but I've seen mixed success there.

As to CSV ~Kevin N. has the correct answer. You can import CSV from USAA, and USAA no longer has investment type accounts (they were all sent to Schwab). You will need to spend some time parsing out the formats and entry fields in MD, but it can be done.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496610422022-01-20T00:27:05Z2022-01-22T20:32:37ZUSAA and CSV files

Thanks for the suggestions. I am new to this so if dtd could give me a little more detail on how to use the toolbox extension to snatch the file, I'd would be happy to try it.

Kevin N, I tried following the community data on using the Text File Importer but could not find it. Under extensions, I found a different importer, which could not read the USAA CSV export. Any idea on where to find it in case my trying dtd's solution doesn't work?

Jaime Nahmantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496610422022-01-20T00:42:37Z2022-01-22T20:32:33ZUSAA and CSV files

Given you are new to this, do you know how to install an extension? You will want to learn this, as some things need extensions (like downloading stock quotes daily). Go to Extensions/Manage Extensions to get going.

I am also assuming (given you are new) that you are using a 2022 version (trial is ok) of Moneydance.

Check out these instructions from Moneydance:

Feel free to ask more if things seem confusing, but this is a one time action to get USAA working with a data file.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/496610422022-01-20T02:15:50Z2022-01-22T20:32:33ZUSAA and CSV files

Hi Jamie,

You should be able to start the process of importing your CSV file by going from the Moneydance menu bar to File > Import.

There is also CSV Importer extension that can do the trick as well.

If you post a small sample of your CSV file, I can give you a little more insight on how to set things up. Be aware that these are public forums so make sure that there is no sensitive data in the CSV file before attaching it. (e.g., account numbers etc.)

I have screwed around with the csv file, made a test account, and
imported. I don't know where MD comes up with a balance and starting
balance since I did not specify one but it is all off and does not
appear in the csv file. I will post online. thanis
