Can you confirm that you followed the instructions in the following Moneydance KB article with regards to moving to a new computer?

I tried moving moneydance directory to new machine...

2 questions regarding the above statement.
Did you move the .moneydance directory?
Did you move the yourfilename.moneydance data file?

Look to the following Moneydance KB article for instructions on moving your data file.
It was easy to move both at the same time as I had them in a VHD file which looks like a drive, so moved the whole drive. The accounts are fine just missing passwords for the accounts and all the added extensions.
So I started over and setup the sync function to a shared drive. Then loaded the sync from the new machine with the same results as the move. The accounts are fine just missing passwords for the accounts and all the added extensions.

jesmailtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/502315922022-02-19T21:17:24Z2022-02-19T21:17:24ZTrying to either sync two computers or move to new computer - online banking passwords gone on new machine.

Hi Jim,

The .moneydance directory should never be moved as Moneydance looks to that folder for its preference settings, extensions, etc.

Try moving the .moneydance directory back to its original placement.

If you move the entire .moneydance tree to a new machine and are using the same version of Moneydance on both systems then extensions should still be loading as should online passwords. However the .moneydance tree must be located in your login folder, if you move it a new one will be created there and used, the moved .moneydance tree will not be used. This is the place that Moneydance looks for preferences extensions etc and must be located there when Moneydance is running, your data sets however can be moved anywhere.

Likewise if you move a dataset i.e. a folder with a name format of Your.FileName.moneydance then it is expected that online passwords would be intact but in this instance extensions would not.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/502315922022-02-19T23:12:38Z2022-02-19T23:12:38ZTrying to either sync two computers or move to new computer - online banking passwords gone on new machine.

Kevin, on my original machine installed moneydance on the C: drive as normal and created the data files on drive S: . On the new machine I installed moneydance on drive C: and copied the Drive S: over to the new machine as S: drive.
Then opened monydance and had it open the files on the S: drive. So moving it back to the old machine might be hard for the new machine to find it.

jesmailtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/502315922022-02-19T23:27:20Z2022-02-19T23:27:20ZTrying to either sync two computers or move to new computer - online banking passwords gone on new machine.

DWG - thank you !!!! That was it. everything works on the new computer.

jesmail
