Good morning,

I have tried to open moneydance this morning, but it will not open, it shows it is open as an icon on the bottom of my screen but when I click on the Moneydance icon it will not open the software, there is a blue line underneath the icon when I click on the icon it shows my data but nothing comes up it just is blank and will not open Moneydance on my screen. I have two monitors and it has been working OK until now

Look for a tiny minimised window and expand that.

Yes I have done that, but when I click on it nothing comes up, basically Moneydance does not open up at all.

And did you drag the edge of the little window bigger?

Try closing MD, finding and renaming config.dict and then restarting MD.

If that works, renter your license key

    Hi Stuart,

When I click on the icon Moneydance at the bottom of my screen (see attached), Moneydance does not open at all even though all my files are there (see attached), I have tried opening it in every possible way, my computer cannot find the file “config.dict” so I am not sure where this would be in order to rename it.

I need to resolve this as Moneydance is how I keep trap on my accounts, however, it does open up on my laptop at home where there is only one screen, but I also need it to open on my works computer I have used Moneydance for a few years now and I have never had this problem eventhough I have always had two screens.

    Have u tried restarting computer?

In Moneydance, your preferences are stored in a file called config.dict.

If you're using Mac OS X, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

    or:

    Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go>Go to Folder> and type in:

    ~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located at:

    C:/Users/(yourusername)/.moneydance/config.dict

If you're using Linux, it should be located at:

    /home/(yourusername)/.moneydance/config.dict ——-

If that doesn’t work. Find errlog.txt and post that here.

    it can be found at:

If you're using Mac OS X, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

    or:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

    ~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

    C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

    or

    C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

Depending on your version of Windows

If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
    ~/.moneydance/errlog.txt

On macOS Big Sur and Monterey have a look in

    ~/Library/Containers/Moneydance/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

    Hi,

Yes I have tried restarting my PC more times than I have had hot dinners

I found the file but it will not let me rename it (attached is what it states) and I have shut Moneydance.

    Hi Anita,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

I believe you are using a Windows system so you could try Alt –> Spacebar –> M and use the arrow keys, to see if you can move a missing dialog back on screen.

Also, since you are entitled to a free upgrade to the latest version, you may want to download and install Moneydance 2022.3 (4063).

If the problem persists, you could send us a copy of your Moneydance error logs, as Stuart suggested earlier. The logs should include information on what might be causing the issue.

They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file. You need to navigate to: Local Disk(C:)>Users>Your Name>.moneydance

Finally you can copy the full content into your next reply here.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!
