Auto import of BofA transactions no longer functions
Hello good MD people. I switched to MD from Quicken 2017 and have not looked back. I am currently running MD 2022.3 (4063).
I don't do a lot of online banking in MD, but what I have done with BofA has worked well, until this month. Let me say up front that this new problem is not a big deal, as there is an easy workaround. But I am curious as to what happened to change things.
I used to be able to sign on to BofA through a browser, click Download on the appropriate account, and select "Web Connect for Quicken 2018 and above" for the file type. I would get a dialog box, asking whether I wanted to save the .QFX file to disk, or to import the file into the associated app (moneydance.exe). The default and usual go-to was the latter.
I would then get a confirmation box from MD as to which account the transactions pertain. Once confirmed, the transactions would be automatically imported into that account in MD, and I could proceed to confirm the transactions and reconcile the account. .
However, I no longer get an option to import the file into MD. It goes straight to saving the .QFX file to disk. Again, this is not a big problem, as importing the .QFX file into MD and processing is straight-forward. But I don't understand what happened to take away the auto-import option.
Is it a change at BofA? Might it have to do with the soon-to-expire 3-year window of Quicken 2018? (Mind you, I was running Quicken 2017 at the time, but the option presented by BofA to download a file in "Web Connect for Quicken 2018 and above" has always functioned as auto-import until this month.)
Just wondering. Thanks for any thoughts.
Ken

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Ken
Try updating to 2022.2(4068) from https://infinitekind.com/preview
Hopefully this will fix the bug you are seeing.

Thanks, Derek. I will do that, and report back one way or another. Cheers.

Hello Ken,
If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like the selection to import into Moneydance used to appear immediately after clicking on the download link in your web browser? And that's where this option is no longer appearing? If so, that's actually an issue with your web browser, as that's the program that's presenting you that option, not Moneydance. It's likely that your browser has forgotten to associate those files with Moneydance, or perhaps you misclicked once on an option to always save those file types to the disk.
Sometimes reinstalling a program can help browsers remember this, so I think it's fine to upgrade to the 4068 build as a first step. If that still doesn't work, and you aren't sure how to reset your browser settings for this, let us know which browser you are using, and perhaps someone can offer a link with instructions on how to do this, since it varies based on browser and operating system.

Possibly the files association at the Operating system level has been changed so that it is no longer Moneydance.

That's a good point, although many browsers also store this information separately. What one wants to do when clicking on a link to a PDF file is often different in a web browser than a file on one's computer, for example. It could be either (or both)!

Thanks very much for your suggestions, Ethan and dwg. A couple responses:
Re disappearance of auto-import option:
Yes, Ethan, clicking Download transactions in the first attached image used to bring up a Save or Import option, with the default set to Import. Now it just goes straight to a Save dialog, prompting for file name and location. I suppose I could have inadvertently said to skip the Import option from now on, though that should remain the default of a run-time option, not a pre-selected non-option. Anyway, I couldn't find anything in FF or BofA account settings to govern this.
Re possible browser problem:
The browser is Firefox 98.x. . Auto import HAD been working for years in FF. Though, FF does update their browser about every 10 minutes (#@$%#!!), so a change in FF operation may have changed its reaction to a .QFX download. However, I signed on to BofA in Chrome browser, and got the same bypass of auto-import option, going straight to file Save.
Re potential file association problem: The second attached image shows that it should associate .QFX files with MD. Though, whether FF is still using this association as it used to is another question. Good thought that a new MD installation may kick FF into remembering (or using) associations.
I'll try updating to 4068 next. I have not done so yet, as I want to do two installations one right after the other, so as to be running the identical version on both desktop and laptop.
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond with helpful suggestions. I'll let you all know what happens under 4068.
Cheers,
Ken

Update: No, updating to 4068 didn't change things. Downloading still did not give me the option to import to MD.
I can think of only one other thing to try. I notice that the BofA download dialog box includes the missive, "Support for Quicken 2017 is no longer available..." Honestly, I don't know if this notice is new, or has always been present.
On the assumption that the message is new, maybe it's revealing a setting for my BofA accounts. I don't recall ever setting up my BofA accounts for Quicken, specifically. But, maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps BofA has knowledge that I WAS using Quicken 2017, and is finally getting around to enforcing Quicken's 3-year moratorium on Quicken versions?
There is nothing in BofA settings about this. I guess I'll try phoning their tech support and see if they have such a user-app setting. We'll see.
Anyway, just wanted to update the status of this thread to anyone who is interested. If I have to download and save files from now on, and then import manually into MD, I will survive.
