importing data
Hi again ...
I am still a noob. I am still treading through treacle with learning how to use this software.
I am not trying to sync or use actual connections to my cards or bank, I am starting with looking at my accounts from Jan- March this year.
I have managed to import data from my two credit cards. (yay)
I have now tried to fetch the three months of data from my current account.
I downloaded the info as Qif
Openend MD - appartently "Imported" it - but I cannot see any transactions on the screen
It does say: 102 unconfirmed transactions and has a figure in the balance box, but nothing else.
What now?

It sounds like you may be in split screen mode, you can either try dragging the bar that say X unconfirmed transactions up or click on the small icon next to the New Transaction button to toggle between single screen and split screen modes.

Hi Susan,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Please check the following:
The filter at the top of the register should be set to "All".
Are you in split register or combined mode?
The button that toggles between split and combined mode is at the top-right corner of the register, next to New Transaction.
If this is in split mode then all unconfirmed transactions will be shown in a second register which appears below the regular register.
This can sometimes be collapsed, so that all it shows is a bar with a label that says "N unconfirmed transactions". If you see that bar, drag it up vertically and you'll see the unconfirmed transactions in that list.
Finally, QIF files can be imported easily, but we would recommend you use the OFX or QFX file format if either are available.
OFX and QFX files contain unique transaction identifiers. If you were to accidentally download the same transaction to Moneydance more than once, the ID would be recognised. Moneydance would then ignore the duplicate transactions and not download them again.
Unfortunately QIF files don't contain these same ID's.
If you haven't already, I'd recommend taking a look at this article from the knowledge base that details recognising and confirming your recently downloaded data.
When transactions have been recently downloaded, they'll be 'unconfirmed' which is signified by a blue dot in the register.
To begin the confirmation process, select the first transaction in the register with a 'blue dot'. A panel will appear on the right of your screen which shows the 'Current Transaction' details. You can amend the category within this panel, then select 'Confirm'. You'll see the solid blue dot change to a blue circle. Moneydance will then move to the next unconfirmed transaction in the register.
As you go through this process it will become quicker and easier. Moneydance will begin to recognise the information you have previously confirmed, and start to suggest the correct categories within 'Similar Payees' in the panel on the right.
The next time you download from the bank many of the correct categories will automatically be assigned, and this will improve and you confirm more transactions.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Yes - that little toggle button is the answer!
Bless you both!

I will read the other stuff, thanks, Maddy - sadly my bank only allows this Qif thing.

As Maddy said the main issue with QIF files is the lack of a transactions ID, these files are otherwise pretty flexible.
Some banks allow you to specify a date range for what transactions to download, if your bank provides this functionality you can largely avoid duplicates by only specifying, downloaded and importing each date range once.
