They haven't allowed direct connections to be activated for new accounts for years, but they haven't shut off existing ones. We wanted to keep that connection profile in there for people who already had established connections, but wanted to make it as clear as possible that this wouldn't work for most people.</p>
<p>I'm actually surprised they've left the existing connections on for so long, it seemed like they were going to retire the servers completely, which still could happen any day. Maybe they just forgot.</p>
