Memo field and Descriptoin corruption on download from Plaid. The downloaded line contains meaningless information.

" "memo" = "Point Of Sale Withdrawal - THE H The H USD special in store Transfer:Withdrawal"

"Point of Sale Withdrawal" - Meaningless

"USD" - meaningless - all my transactions are in USD
"special in store Transfer:Withdrawal" - absolutely meaningless

The actual memo field downloaded directly from the bank reads: Point Of Sale Withdrawal - THE HOME DEPOT 339 SPEEN STREET NATICK MAUS

Here's what's in the transaction details when downloaded from plaid by moneydance.

Plaid is messing up my transactions from Salem V. Salem V knows nothing about Plaid. Plaid takes the description, which is truncated by the bank and uses it in place of the memo which is not truncated. This results in only four characters identifying the transaction and it is not enough.

At this point, online banking with Plaid is hit or miss.

The memo entry coming in is
ol.orig-memo: Point Of Sale Withdrawal - THE H The H USD special in store
What's actually in the bank's data is Point Of Sale Withdrawal - THE HOME DEPOT 339 SPEEN STREET NATICK MAUS

Please work with plaid to straighten this out.

Just because all your transactions are in USD does not mean that the notation is meaningless. The bank may be transmitting that information to plaid. It is not true that Salem V knows nothing about plaid. They know that they supply information to 3rd party aggregators. They support the software that transfers information to Plaid.

Now it may be that Plaid is incorrectly transmitting that information. But no one here has enough information to say if the issue is the bank or the aggregator. Only Plaid and the bank can say that.

Unfortunately that is the situation we are in with using 3rd parties like Plaid and no one (except Plaid and the banks) are happy about it.
