Problem with opening PENFED CREDIT UNION (https://www.penfed.org) download page directly by selecting Online --> Open Account Website. When doing this, the CU's website opens with an error message at the top stating, "It appears you are using an unsupported browser. Please update to a supported browser". It then lists several common browsers such as Edge , Firefox etc.
Apparently Money dance is using a browser called "General Crawler"?? Is that correct? If so, can Moneydance be updated/changed to use Firefox to directly access and download from PENFED CU (or possible other sites)?

    I'm a fellow user.

From Moneydance 2022.4 the embedded browser has been retired and removed from the software. When a browser is required Moneydance will start/switch to your system browser.

Thanks. Just updated and i see that download requests now do default to system browser outside of Moneydance. Part of the switch to Moneydance+ i guess.

    Not really.

In the many discussions on the internal browser, Moneydance+ was never mentioned.

There are over 190 countries in the world and one of the goals is to offer as may methods of getting data into Moneydance as possible. Direct Connect is not supported outside of North America and Moneydance+ current can only add a few European Countries to this as well as supporting North American institutions that do not offer DC.

The concept behind the Internal Browser was to be able to support any institution that offered data via a browser, as most do in the world, and to also be able to automate the download, via scripts. A very desirable objective but also a lofty one.

During the process some facts have emerged:

    1. Developing the browser to the level required is a major project, to this end it would almost be a product in its own right.

    2. Considerable ongoing maintenance would be required as institutions made changes, browser standards evolved etc.

    3. It has become clear that Apple would never accept a version of Moneydance in the App store that included the inbuilt browser.

The resources required for points 1 & 2 made is apparent that the capability was not something that could be sustained and that effort is probably better directed to the core capabilities of Moneydance and that as such manual downloads will need to remain as they are.
