Can't connect to bank after password change
I had to reset my username and password at my bank last week. When attempting to connect today I entered my new UN and PW and got the following error message:
***
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
Bank Name: <bankname>
The error code reported by the server was: 2000
The user has entered an invalid user ID or password. If registering for the first time, please login to <link that does not work> to start the registration process.
***
I get the same result when I go through the steps of disabling and re-setting up online banking for the account within MD.
I called my bank, they said their server is not receiving the request, and so is not denying it due to login issues. BTW: I had just downloaded the new Mac update. 2022.5 (4091)

Hi brentemerson,
Try this...
Make a backup of your data for the worst-case scenario (see below)
Open Moneydance to the account in question.
From the Moneydance menu bar, go to Online > Forget Online Passwords.
I haven't used this feature in many years, so I don't know if it instructs Moneydance to forget ALL of your passwords or just the one for that particular account. Be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

… plus in toolbox you can select to forget just for one service profile.
… if that doesn’t work, file/passwords, deselect store online passwords, restart, then reenable….

MD is not set up to remember my passwords (I re-enter them each time). Regardless I did follow those directions and the same thing happens.
FYI: I tried setting up online banking in a fresh MD file, but I get the same error.

Run toolbox, online banking menu, view installed service profiles (2nd option). Do your ‘old’ credentials appear in there somewhere?

Toolbox output (that bit I assume is relevant):
>>Accounts configured within bank profile:
<NONE FOUND>
>>MD Accounts linked to this service / bank profile:
<NONE FOUND>
>>ROOT Data associated with service profile:
The next line under this shows my current (correct) username.
The next line under that shows my correct username again followed by "value: <a long alphanumeric string and means nothing to me>
Anything else I should be looking for?

OK, so ROOT data user name looks correct? Good..
Further down,
Further down,
Raw Parameter keys:
then various 'so_user_id....' keys... Again, what appears here...?
You could also look at the 1st toolbox option: Search for stored OFX related data..
You could also look at Curious Button, search for key/data, key data, try searching on both the old userid and also old password.
If you cannot find any old data then (I suspect a bank problem and) you will have to Help/Console, keep console open, try to connect again, go back to console, post console output back here (as an attached txt file)...

Here’s a odd bit that I also noticed in the regular interface:
fi_url https://www.wesllfargo.com/wfonline/qm/ <https://www.wesllfargo.com/wfonline/qm/>
Should be wellsfargo, I assume. I corrected that in the “Set Up Line Banking” fields last weekend, surprised to see it here. All other instances of the url are correct.
“ You could also look at the 1st toolbox option: Search for stored OFX related data..”
I looked in there and all I see is my correct username, as expected since I had MD recall my username but not my password, I entered that each time myself.

Ok. So as suggested try this:
(I suspect a bank problem). Help/Console, keep console open, try to connect again, get the error, switch back to the open help/console, save and post the console output back here (as an attached txt file)...

Thanks for you help, Stuart.
You don't think that the typo in the fi url line is a problem? That's the URL that appears when I try to reset the account access. When I called the bank they said that they couldn't see my OFX requests, meaning they weren't making it to the server. "Non-existing" access requests won't get the chance to be denied by un/pw issues.

Yes, it could be a problem... I've asked several times for you to open console, connect, send the console log... This would tell me.. But, you don't seem to want to do that... So all I can suggest is that you 'nuke' the OFX DC profile and reconnect from scratch...
Toolbox, Online Banking Tools, update mode, Delete OFX Banking Service...
(not support, just a fellow user)

I'm not always at home in front of the computer with MD. When I get a chance I will.

👍 I would just nuke the profile and start again....
13 Posted by brentemerson on 24 Aug, 2022 12:54 PM
Put "nuke the profile" in layman's terms, please.

I did...
Toolbox, Online Banking Tools, enable update mode, Delete OFX Banking Service...
Then use standard MD to recreate the OFX connection....

Thanks!

Stuart,
The nuclear option did not work. I did the toolbox steps, then tried to Setup Online Banking, entered current UN and PW, and received the same error message I’ve been getting.
Then I followed your Console steps; the text file is attached.
I appreciate your help.

Ok. Well it’s clearly connecting ok and WF is talking back (I have no idea if it was before).
It’s talking to
https://ofxdc.wellsfargo.com/ofx/process.ofx
Can I presume that in toolbox that reference to the old wrong spelling has gone now? Please confirm?
You are sending logon request with
dmr….. (redacted)
The response was:
The user has entered an invalid user ID or password. If registering for the first time, please login to https://www.wellsfargo.com/fmssetup to start the registration process.
So, you ARE connecting. I would ring the bank again. It’s possible you weren’t even connecting to bank before, but now you are….

I'm not sure what changed but I now have all accounts reconnected. In a couple instances I needed to create new accounts and do an initial online banking setup. When those connected the original accounts updated as well, I then deleted the new accounts. Others simply connected simply by routine transactions download.
During the time when it was failing, after the error message, when I was presented with the window to choose which bank account to associate with which MD account, all options would be inactive. Last night those options were live so I knew we were making progress.
Making those new connections with new accounts was probably a manual way of doing a built-in Toolbox function, I'll look into that extension more deeply, lots of information in there it seems, once you understand it.
I very much appreciate your help, Stuart!
