OFX connections with Tangerine bank (Canada)

My bank, Tangerine Bank, has an OFX API but I'm having trouble getting it to work with Moneydance 2022.5.

I've successfully downloaded account data via OFX using Banktivity (a competing desktop money manager) as well as using the Python ofxclient library, so while I don't know whether their OFX implementation is fully compliant, it does work.

The bank does not appear in the Moneydance financial institutions list. I've tried to use the Advanced Setup dialog in Moneydance to connect, using the parameters from https://www.ofxhome.com/index.php/institution/view/794. (Those same parameters work when I connect using the Python ofxclient library.) But it doesn't work -- their API returns an error ("This function is currently not available"), and while Moneydance prompts me for further account information, the Online Banking box is not available to be checked.

I've attached the log of the OFX request and response from the Moneydance console. I'm not familiar with the OFX protocol, but it looks like the error comes in response to Moneydance making a request with an anonymous username/password, which the other working software doesn't do -- maybe that's part of the issue? If that makes sense, is there a way to manually tell Moneydance that this API supports online banking and give it my auth information so we can go straight to authenticated requests? Is there any other information I can provide that would be helpful? Thanks!

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Unfortunately Tangerine have stopped supporting Direct Connect services and their listing was removed from Moneydance.

It looks as though Tangerine still support Web Connect and Express Web Connect.
Moneydance only supports automatic downloads using Direct Connect or Moneydance +.
You may want to try out Moneydance + if you wish to obtain automatic downloads. For further information please visit this section of the Knowledge Base.

Without Direct Connect and Moneydance +, you are still able to easily import your data into the program. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download files from your bank's web site.

We'd recommend you download using the OFX or QFX file format if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.
The steps for manually importing your data are outlined in this article from the knowledge base.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Maddy, Infinite Kind Support
