Discover accounts no longer offer quicken format download option
This is from Discover:
"As of September 27, 2022, we discontinued the option to download account activity directly from the Discover Bank Account Center into a Quicken format."
Just thought you might want to know if you don't know already.
Thanks
Steve

I also just discovered this problem (pun intended). Does anyone have a work around for it? I contacted Discover, but they were unable to help. Is the only option to try using moneydance+?

Hello,
Yes, we've heard this from other customers. Unfortunately there's little we can do when banks make decisions like this. I would encourage everyone to complain to Discover, as they may be more responsive to many of their customers complaining, rather than a small company like us. There's really no reason for them to do this, generating these files are pretty automatic and at no cost to them.
It seems like from another thread they still offer CSV downloads. This is a much less desirable option, and will take more work on your part to import correctly, because this isn't a standardized format, and it looks like they're not formatting theirs great: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/online-banking/23821...

I noticed this issue today. CSV download format does work, but the charge, payment amounts are reversed. I had to move the amounts from payments to charge after the CSV import. That means the merge option is ineffective also. I wonder if MD could look at that issue and see if there is any way to deal with that issue.

Hi mhoggie,
You should try the CSV Importer extension.
Try setting up the reader per my screenshot. What's nice about this is that it's a one and done set up that you can save. You can set up different readers to work with different financial institution's CSV files.
If you have any trouble, let me know, and I'll try to lend a hand.

Thanks for the offer of help, Kevin. I was able to set up the CSV importer and to bring the transactions into Moneydance. However, I cannot get Moneydance to recognize the entries for which a Merge would be appropriate, i.e., imports for which I have already created entries with the same total amount and on or near the posted date of the transaction. Do you know of any means of forcing md to recognize potential Merge entries?

I checked my Discover savings account, and indeed, only CSV and Excel available for manual download. Sigh.
That said, my automatic OFX download link for Discover still works for now, though given this change, makes me wonder how long that will continue to work.
Does anyone know if that automatic OFX link still works for Discover checking or credit cards (I only have a savings account)

dtd,
OFX is still working for me on my credit union. I haven't tried it on my non-Discover credit cards yet. My credit union has not sent me any notice about an imminent change.

Hi crlinder,
I haven't had the need to do so. I really can't speak to that. I only use DC rarely. Sorry.

I've located a couple of csv to ofx converter tools that folks might want to consider until this issue gets resolved:
CSV Converter (csvconverter.biz)
iCreateOFX Basic (www.icreateofx.com)
The first is free, but it is an online tool. It seems to be secure, and the files you would be converting wouldn't have any information that would allow anyone to gain access to your financial accounts. I tried it on a small file, and it worked fine. Importing the OFX file into Moneydance was seamless, and because it was an OFX file, md provided a Merge option when appropriate.
The second one is a stand alone tool that you can download, but it is not free. Purchase for personal use is $11.58. I have not tried it yet as it does not appear to have a trial period before purchase.

Thanks Kevin, I forgot about that CSV importer extension. I was able to get it set up with your example and was able to import Discover transaction correctly.

The CSV option does work. As stated the amount field seems reversed. The amount field is positive for a purchase amount. Changing this field to DEBIT will have the amount correctly placed in the Purchase column. If this field is negative (Payment or Credit) Moneydance will treat correctly. This method has an "Automatically Merge Duplicates" option.

Thanks Bob, that seems to work, Changed the amount field to debit using the MD default CSV tool and the amounts all went to the correct columns. Merge worked also but it doesn't give you the option of merging, it just replaces duplicates it matches and leaves the transaction as uncleared.

Mhoggie, Try unchecking the "Automatically Merge Duplicates" box in the CSV Import form, that should let you Confirm on similar transactions.

Oh yeah, works great, thanks Bob.
So now on Discover, just download the CSV file then leave the auto merge deselected and change the amount field to Debit. Then Merge feature works perfect. All good now.
