Moneydance+ UK availability

When I saw the updates over a year ago about moneydance+ I decided to upgrade to the latest version so that when it became available in the UK I would be able to sign up.

The blog article of 12 October 2021 stated "UK and investment support soon to follow".

I feel slightly misled into upgrading based on that wording. Over a year is not soon - can you please advise what your definition of "soon to follow" actually means, and when the functionality will be available for UK banks. Is it in the coming weeks, months, or years?

I think you have hit the nail on the head. I too have been waiting over a year for this and aid specifically for the upgrade for this. The fact that no one has replied says it all. This is the last time I pay for an upgrade on MD

FWIW I have put a note on the Developer's web site that this is a question that support should be on top of.

While I am aware that testing shows that Moneydance+ does work with UK banks I do not think that other customers should be offering reasons as to perhaps why the capability has not been released, this is clearly something for company representatives to do.

Are you going to even bother replying Infinite Kind?? Any kind of response at all is better than completely ignoring the customers who you misled into upgrading with the promise of a feature 'coming soon' 14 months ago....

    Hi Chris

I have added another message to that posted by dwg to Sean’s the Moneydance developers Slack web site requesting he take a look at your discussion.

    Hope this helps.

It's pretty disappointing to see this continued radio silence on this issue - just be up front about it. If the feature is postponed or cancelled just say that.

I believe the issue is with the partner being used but it's hard to see how it can be causing this much delay when you look at what others have achieved in this area. SyncForYNAB is a good example of a working solution from a one man band (before he joined YNAB) I've also recently tried Banktivity again and their Salt Edge based direct connect solution seems to work pretty well.

    Hello,

I'm sorry for the lack of communication about this. Basically, we can't use Plaid to provide UK connectivity. I am working on getting a connection up and running with SaltEdge to provide transaction download, and possibly more, with UK banks and a lot more banks outside of North America than Plaid ever supported. It is coming, but I'm sorry that I can't yet provide an ETA.

    Thanks,
    Sean

This is the time of year when I have a few days time to get my accounts up to date - still by manual entry - and then check the Moneydance forums to see if there's been any progress.

Happy to see there is some hope - Saltedge supports at least some of my accounts.

There has been no further updates on using SaltEdge, nor any new preview releases since 2022.6. It was known that 2022.6 was on the way as possibly the last release in the 2022 series.

We may not see anything until the next major version goes into testing.

I'm encouraged to see that a lot of the accounts I use are supported according to the Saltedge website.

This can't come too soon for me .. I'm still entering transactions manually.

I've tried importing data files, where they're offered and creating csv files pasted from statements where there is no data download available. I can get them working but in the end it's more trouble than manual input.

Had hoped this would be on the MD 2023 upgrade release notes. Any roadmap for this at all?

    I'm a fellow user.

TIK do not publish any roadmap information.

A lot of the changes to MD2023 are under the hood, so in the engine department we never see. As far as I know there has so far been no activity with the usual testing suspects regarding SaltEdge testing, and given the under the hood work I do not think we are up to that stage of having a working implementation to look at.

The work on Moneydance 2023 is a rewrite of the code into the Kotlin language in order to facilitate future capability, Kotlin can be supported on mobile devices whereas Java cannot. But do not expect mobile support in the next release, that is still a ways off.

So all the effort at the moment is on this. We have been cycling through Alpha releases trying to get it bedded down and find as many bugs as possible before it is made into a Beta Release, we are currently at Build 5042 to give an indication of how many builds we have cycled through. It is getting closer to having a new Beta but I do not think it is quite there yet.

The feature list is pretty empty, work is being done to fix things like memory problems but no new real major features will be present and I would suggest no Moneydance + support past Plaid at this stage.

Cheers, does that mean Plaid might work for some UK banks, or was that only available to some beta testers?

  23. 21 Posted by dwg on 28 Sep, 2023 01:38 PM

    dwg's Avatar

It was only available for Beta testing. At the end of the day Plaid proved not to be viable for general use outside of the U.S. I think you can read that as it was too expensive. To be honest Plaid's coverage outside of North America is not brilliant.

Thanks, it's a shame as I really do like Moneydance but I'm moving to Banktivity (they use Salt Edge for UK banks and it works well)

Investment account management is a lot better in Monedance, but my tolerance for manual entry just isn't there.

Hopefully, in the future, this will be implemented, and I can happily switch back.

Wow Salt Edge for the range of connectivity is amazing, and even more impressive is Banktivity for its interface and graphics and being able to import investment transactions. Would I move? Not sure it had some of the flexibility I get with moneydance and certainly not keen to lose 15 years of history, but was closed to signing up so would happily pay a lot more for the Salt Edge features and a modern interface that hopefully Kotlin can provide.

We had hoped that UK bank connections would be available via Moneydance +, but unfortunately, we've encountered numerous problems getting this setup, and our lead developer has determined that Plaid is not going to competently allow UK bank downloads.

Currently, we are looking into alternatives, and we're trying to get UK bank connections available via a different service. Once set up, this service will allow connections to UK banks.

Please be assured that getting UK banks included in Moneydance is a very high priority for us. I can't provide an exact time scale for when this will be available. I have flagged this discussion so we can notify you directly when UK bank automatic downloads are available.

Sadly, I have given up waiting. I have been using MD since 2015 and it is with a heavy heart I say goodbye to it, but sitting waiting nearly 4 years for UK bank integration is enough. I sat down yesterday and set up Banktivity. Saltedge allows me to sycn most of my bank/credit card transactions.

I will have to play a yearly subscription for Banktivity, but that will be a decent return for not having to enter all my bank and credit card transactions manually. But very sad that Moneydance couldn't provide this.

Hey Moneydance .. what's happening with UK online banking?

I've given up on Banktivity - I was using the Gold paid version for the past two years to import various UK bank statements and then export to Moneydance - but the import constantly stops and there are missing transactions with no indication of why. The app has to be force quit often when trying to view connection status. I don't know if it's because I don't open it every day/week - ymmv.
