Missing transactions after importing QFX
Hi. I have recently imported a number of QFX files into MoneyDance with no problems. Then My two latest imports were missing a transaction here and there. I checked the QFXF file (with Notepad) and they are in the file but not brought into MD. I Imported the same file again and still they were not there. Not so fun as I then need to go over my statement line by line to see what's missing. :(

just a user - first, I don't know what a QPF file is - QuickPad? 3d software?
I assume you made a mistake and mean either QIF or a similar format.
What are the specific entries that do not import? (i.e. the here and there).

You're right. I got the extension wrong. I've changed the post. Thanks.

The specific entries are just regular purchases on my account. Some purchases imported, others did not.

just a user - Ok, QFX, much different than QIF (or QPF, :) )
So, next - we figure out why some purchases imported some did not. Was there anything unique AT ALL about what imported and what did not? Duplicates come to mind, or similar items with the same price. Dates? Obviously not being able to see these make it all conjecture.
You might also consider setting up help/console window (open), importing the QFX file, and see what Moneydance says they did with it.
You could upload that here and the QFX file for others to examine depending on your concern about privacy. If not that, look over the QFX file carefully, and the windows console file. That's what someone here would do.

Attached is part of my bank statement. Lines with a tick imported properly. Some of the transactions were just purchases, others auto-payments, some e-transfers. There seems to be no correlation with date as the missings are scattered throughout. I ran a Console Window thinger while doing another import that turned out well. I'll continue to do so, especially with this account. We'll see how it goes.

I have recently run into the same kind of problem. My missing transactions are all from Desert Financial Credit Union, in a credit card account. Downloading the file in CSV format shows the missing transactions. Browsing the QFX file in notepad also shows the missing transactions. One thing they seem to have in common is the name field has either a "/" or "*". My wife used to work in EDI for a bank and commented that both a slash and an asterisk were often used as delimiters. I wonder if that could be an issue. For whatever reason, Moneydance is ignoring the transactions from two sources.

Hmm. I took a look at my paper statement and none of the skipped transactions have a * or /. A number of them are transactions that occur every month with this exact amount. Others are standard transfers between accounts. I will check the CSV for funny characters though. Thanks gpshop.

I do not think there is much to be gained from looking at a CSV download if you are trying to import OFX/QFX files, while the original source is the same ,the structure and contents are quite different, only examining the contents of the OFX file will likely yield anything of use in my opinion.

I think I had three different sources for my missing transactions. Two were fixed amount recurring charges and one was a weekly charge of varying amounts. What is interesting is that I have three credit card accounts downloading weekly and only one has the issue. One difference with the Credit Union is that I have to go to their site to download the QFX file, they don't allow third party access.
The only reason I downloaded a CSV file is to see if the missing transactions were the fault of the Credit Union not sending them or Moneydance not processing them. Much faster to skim an excel file than the QFX file in notepad.

Something else I noticed about this issue. The transactions in question show up after a download, but when 'Confirmed' they do not appear in the register. Only option is to manually enter them. Definitely not a bank problem, but a Moneydance problem.

I think it is likely you will have to provide a sample OFX/QFX file that results in the problem.

Hmm, since the downloads are done via the Download All Accounts, I'm not sure I have a file to provide. Nor am I terribly comfortable providing my banking transactions. Since I've identified a couple of payees that are the problem (Netflix and T-Mobile) I plan to try editing the transactions when they appear for conformation and remove any characters that don't seem to be appearing in other transactions to see if I can narrow down the problem. Probably take months to accomplish (if ever) but I'm old and retired with plenty of time on my hands.

just a user - you can always redact specific items (like amounts) to your satisfaction about privacy. it's the file itself and how it appears to react for you that seems to be the problem.

I have the same problem with QFX downloads and missing transactions. This came to light after Chase discontinued Direct Connect. Now, I download my Chase transactions manually every week. And every week the balance of my account in MD drifts out of sync with the balance on the Chase website.
This morning I downloaded a QFX file and specified all transactions YTD. I imported that file and several transactions that should have been imported in prior weeks appeared as newly imported. Then, I re-imported the same QFX file and even more new transactions. I re-imported the same file several times until no new transactions appeared.
This made me suspicious, so I downloaded a new QFX for all transactions from 2022. I found dozens of transactions that were missed from last year -- using Direct Connect!
Many of these were for recurring monthly subscriptions (Spotify, HBO Max, etc.)
This is frustrating beyond belief. Now I can't trust MD to stay current with my Chase activity and I'll be re-importing transactions over and over again until nothing new is added.
One final annoyance. I've been trying to sign up for MoneyDance+, thinking that might solve my problem. But, I never get the confirmation email! I've tried using several different addresses and I check my spam folder regularly. No luck!

just a user - MD can only import what the QFX file has in it.
That said, your comment "I imported the SAME QFX file and more transactions appeared." The only thing I can think about that is the "same price for recurring monthly subscriptions" might be imported as "duplicates" (i.e. discarded) but when you do it again, they are no longer considered duplicates? Are the new transactions random ones, or consistently similar values? (One reason I'm thinking this is Quicken had this problem for years).

Small comfort - other than perhaps Misery Likes Company - but have also been having trouble getting Chase to download to MoneyDance: QFX, QIF, Firefox, Chrome, "Direct Import" to MD, or Save QIF to disk & then (try...) Importing.
It APPEARS that the fault might be with Chase: a 5-Month QIF download seems to hold precisely 2 (two...) transactions - and even those consist of a Single Transaction which is duplicated....

Chase stuffed up their QIF files many years ago and it seems would not fix them - they fail to put a ^ to indicate the end of each record/transaction.
When I looked at a file it seems Chase put a blank line between the transactions but this is not a valid end of transaction indicator hence there is nothing Moneydance can do to work with the QIF files.
