I just checked and I am able to download AMEX Credit Card. If my memory serves me correctly and confirmed by inspecting my account settings, you have to use a special card number (which I think they provide back to you on setting up your download connection). My account number is 15 alphanumeric characters with a vertical bar | and the last 5 digits of my account. That is not something I made up or provided and certainly is not my current card number.
But downloading with that "card number" and my existing credentials let me successfully download transactions just moments ago.

just a user
My American express credit cards download fine with OFX direct connect.
American express savings accounts do not download with OFX, and I use MD+ to download this.
Can you say more about what the problem is? MD Version? Using direct connect or MD+? Error messages?

I had been using QFX to download Amex credit card to Moneydance. But QFX disappeared on me. Thanks dtd and John for your input.

just a user - so is it working now?
"QFX just disappeared on you" - can you describe that further? Manual downloads?

I went to look at manual downloads due to your recent query in the forum. When attempting to download activity, the choices are now more specific to an application versus saying QIF, OFX, QFX, etc... but if you choose Quicken - it still downloads a QFX file.
Does that help any?
