Problems with OFX data from Banks deleting previous transactions
I posted this previously as a private discussion but didn't hear anything.
After updating MD sometime last year (sorry I don't know which version), the OFX data download from both Barclays and NatWest (here in the UK) started causing problems.
It seems like MD is trying to match the amount without regard to the description or whether a previous transaction has been cleared etc.
Today for instance there was a cash withdrawal at the post office on the 12th April, which MD decided was actually a charity payment from the 3rd May and deleted the latter.
Another one today was for £4.50 for which it deleted a payment from the 17th Feb.
- Both had been previously cleared.
Since the start of the year there have been 9 such instances of previous entries being deleted on just that account, all of course without giving me the option to choose which to keep etc.
I would be very grateful if this could get sorted please, as it's driving me nuts. - I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Torben

The way OFX is designed to work is that the institution assigns an unique Transactions ID to each transactions This ID is stored as part of the transaction within Moneydance.
When you again download if Moneydance encounters the same ID again it will discard the newly downloaded transaction because it is believed to be a duplicate. The process does not arbitrarily remove existing transactions, if it did I think there would be scores of posts in the forum, hence I believe something else is occurring here.
Perhaps you could post your Moneydance error log (errlog.txt) as a starting point.

OK thanks - today's download actually worked ok except for 1 entry for which it changed the description, but the values were OK.
I've attached the error log anyway. I see it isn't cumulative, so previous errors don't show up. I'll send you the error log next time I download and get an error but it won't be for a couple of weeks.
If you can spot anything odd please let me know. As I say it's been fine for many years until an update last year sometime.

I see two problems.
The first will not cause any transaction problems, but the issue will not help. You are using Q & ER extension with AlphaVantage and it is erroring, change this to use Yahoo.
I see Dropbox errors and these can cause transaction problems. If you are indeed using syncing It is hard to see how this could be reliable.
If you re using syncing I would be inclined to disable it on all devices and set it up again.

Thanks - I've disabled syncing now and changed the Q & ER to Yahoo. - I note that it must have been looking up investments I haven't had for some time - Is there a way to only look up current ones I wonder?
It'll be interesting to see if that solves it

If you deselect the security in the left hand column of Q & ER, it should not look them up, you could also remove the ticker symbol so there is nothing it can lookup.
