I have my Moneydance 2015 connected to my Fidelity Cash Management account. When I download transactions, payments download as deposits, and deposits download as payments. Is there a fix for this?

    Hi Alan,

It sounds like you have your investment account set up with your checking account as the default category. You should change that to a different category. To view you CMA register, go to your Fidelity investment account in Moneydance and click on the Bank Register tab at the top of the main window.

Fidelity Cash Management accounts are NOT investment accounts, they are checking accounts and should be treated as such. I've been dealing with this issues for YEARS now, and it's beyond frustrating. Fidelity is one of the few places you can get free BillPay as well as free transaction downloads, but Moneydance has NEVER properly handled this account. Moneydance originally at least allowed me to copy transactions from the Investment account over to the Checking account but the 2012 version I have won't even allow that so I have to manually redo them all. It's absolutely maddening. Sounds like 2015 STILL has not figured out that this is a checking account NOT a brokerage account.

I just downloaded version 2015 but still don't see how to use this with my Fidelity Cash account and download my transactions. I can't set up online banking with the checking account in Moneydance as I still get the blank selections for which accounts to use it with, and I still can't do a batch transfer from the investment account to the banking account.

    Hi Mary Jo,

I'm very sorry for the frustration this is causing you! The reason I refer to it as an investment account is because that is how the server sends the information. From your point of view, it looks like a checking account, but from the internal point of view, it is an investment account. I'm sorry the terminology is confusing.

If you set up an investment account in Moneydance and download your Fidelity account to it, you can use the Bank Register tab on the investment account in the same way was the register on a checking account. Unfortunately, because of major differences in how banking and investment transactions are sent by the server, Moneydance can't correct investment data to a checking account.

Hope that clears things up a little. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance, and thanks for using Moneydance.

This is ridiculous, we have been reporting this problem with cash accounts not being handled properly in Moneydance for years, we were promised a fix in MD 2015 and appears you are saying it STILL is not fixed! It's not just MY point of view, it IS a checking account. In no way shape or form are Cash accounts at Fidelity an investment account, you can't invest with them, and they include things like BillPay that are standard checking account features. An older version at LEAST let me easily move the transactions after import to my checking account and then you all decided to break even that small glimmer of light. I guess it's time for me to move on and find a software that will work properly and not insist on treating a checking account as an investment account just because that's easier for them.

The bank register under investment accounts allows you to do about everything you can with a regular bank register, including move transactions into a different account. Have you tried that and found it to not work?

Ah, that's the information I needed, since you said previously "Moneydance can't correct investment data to a checking account." it sounded like there was no way to move the transaction and I had not seen the tabs at the top to switch from Register to Bank Register (what is the reason for having both of these, and having to switch to the Bank Register in the first place?) This is what I need to be able to continue using Moneydance, although I hope you all will look at properly supporting these accounts as bank accounts so we don't have to always use this workaround for them.

Great, glad that works for you. I'll talk to our lead developer about what else we can do to make CMAs look more like regular bank accounts in Moneydance.
