Is there a safe way to convert either Excel (xlsx file or a csv file) that I can export from my bank into a file that moneydance can then import ? Please advise. I am uncomfortable downloading files from the internet that are not verified.

    Hi pekujas0425,

Depending on how your CSV file is structured, you can likely use one of two extensions to import your bank's data.

The Text File Importer extension can import a CSV file, provided debits and credits exist in a single amount column.

The CSV Importer extension is more robust and can accommodate a CSV file with separate credit and debit columns. You will however need to download the extension from the developer's website.

A third option is to install q QIF file creator into Excel and create QIF files for import into Moneydance.

Take you pick of option or try them all and see which you prefer. Using the CSV or Text File Importer should involve less steps however.

    Hi there

Could you send a link for the CSV Importer extension? or how do I get a QIF file creator for Excel?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

The CSV importer for Moneydance 2015 can be downloaded from:

    https://github.com/stant/mdcsvimporter2015/releases/tag/v19

An Excel plug-in to create QIF files is available from:

Hi Stan! I am completely new to Moneydance (switched from Quicken). I had to use Moneydance 2014 because I am still on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (i find it more stable than any of the newer versions).

So far I have solved all the problems I have encountered. Except one. My bank allows downloads in OFX or CSV. I have managed to import the csv files after making necessary changes. The only problem I have is that I am unable to import TAGS. TAGS are important to me. Is there anything I can do to import TAGS into Moneydance from CSV files?

    Appreciate your help.

    Thank you.

    Hi sm,

Just to clarify, are we talking actual Tags or are we talking Categories?

Tags and Categories in Moneydance are two different classifiers.

If it is indeed Categories that you are interested in importing, it has been my experience that the CSV Importer can import Categories.

    Hi Kevin,

I am talking about TAGS. I have seen that categories do get imported and thats great but I need to use tags and would like to get them straight from excel (csv file).

    Thanks

I thought about doing tags once but I think programming for them was different or weird or something or they did not get me what I wanted so I dropped it.

If you make it a request on the git hub Web site for the code I might do it some day.

    Hi.

I did not add tags at this time, but I just put out a new version:
    https://github.com/stant/mdcsvimporter2015/releases/tag/v20

Enhancements to preview window. Point to all problems.
    Add open file. Error count.
Fix display of columns when figure out how columns there really are.
