Sorry to hear of the issue you have encountered when connecting with Capital One. Can you let me know the version of Moneydance you are using? You can check this within Moneydance by navigating to Help --> About Moneydance.

Can you try re-creating your connection with your financial institution and see if that fixes the issue that you're seeing? You will need to disable your current connection to your bank and then recreate it using the New Connection button on the Online Banking Setup screen. To do so, you can follow these steps:

Select your bank account in Moneydance

Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu

Click the "Disable" button. If you don't see a disable button, just close the setup window.

Repeat the previous steps for any additional accounts at the same institution.

Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)

Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK

Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password

Make sure you pick new connection, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.

Please let me know if you continue to have connection problems after recreating your connection.

She says the direct connect was not shut down, only updated. She knows how to make the necessary direct connect update for Quicken users and it involves selecting a new bank name in Quicken (Capital One Bank - New). It also involves some new security feature of a one time PIN being sent. At that point, I didn't bother to get more details about how to make the change in Quicken. I notice there's a Change PIN option in my Settings option on my Capital One Bank accounts, maybe that's how we'd get that, similar to the Access Code we set up in Capital One 360 accounts. I also found a Quicken article about the one time passcode need in Quickbooks, but says to contact a specialist to get the details. I hope someone from InfinteKind will get the official word from Capital One and comment on one of the several posts about this issue.

I have a feeling they will be making the same BAD change to CapitalOne 360 at some point, not the other way around. From the posts from the Quicken community, it looks like they've been working with Quicken on this new security feature, and it has not been going well. Quicken users are angry. The first post below has an "official response" from Quicken that mentions a new API based solution for Capital One next year.

Sorry for the lack of contact on this thread. I'm afraid I don't have the best news regarding the Capital One connection. From what I'm able to find online, it appears Capital One have taken the decision to discontinue their support for Direct Connect services. This is the only method that Moneydance uses to connect with a bank for automatic downloads.

Capital One have created a connection called 'Capital One Bank - New'. This connection does not support Direct Connect, only Express Web Connect. Although we are looking into implanting other connection types into Moneydance, we will not be implementing this form. This is due to security and you can read ore on the connection methods here.

Although your bank does not support Direct Connect, you should still be able to easily import your data into the program. The best way to get your files into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download them from your bank's web site.
You can download into QFX, OFX, OFC or QIF files (aka Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can find the steps for manually importing your data in this article.
You can also open your banks website directly from Moneydance by selecting Online --> Open Account Website, which makes the download process easier.

I wish I had better news to share, especially after the long wait in getting a response from us. I'd like to thank ppinocci for the extensive troubleshooting so far. I'll ensure the Capital One Bank (Not Credit Cards) connection is removed from our supported financial institutions list.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

You have no options. You get the last 100 transactions, or more if you specify. I've been direct connecting always. At least with the credit card you can select a date range, or by statement.
I don't think InfiniteKind will be able to resolve this without using express web connect.
That won't happen, nor do I want it to. It's why I use MoneyDance

Better option might be for a bunch of disgruntled customers to do some complaining.

I also agree with Scott M. that Capital One Bank interface for downloading transaction is lacking. But this is not issue with Infinite Kind, its a Capital One issue that needs to be address by them.

I would encourage anybody that used Capital One Bank with Moneydance to contact Capital One to encourage enhancements to the download tool. Really 100 transactions only, not date range. This needs to be fixed by Capital One. I will be complaining for sure because I prefer Moneydance to that other product for management of my finance

michaelbroylestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/443955122018-01-06T02:45:38Z2018-01-06T02:45:39ZCapital One Banking OFX problem

Ian:

Interestingly though, their manual Download Transactions option let's you select the date range of transactions to download.
I went to the URL you sent, and it allows me to login. And, as you say, it has a selection for Quicken and Money QFX files.

But the only account that downloads is my Capital One 360 account. My regular Capital One account will not download.

So, have you actually downloaded a QFX file from a Capital One account (not Capital One 360). I have found nothing.
Well, I spent some time on the phone with Capital One. It was not very satisfying. Basically, unless Moneydance “dances” with the new exchange protocol, there will be no sharing or uploading of data with Capital One. In fact, I can’t even log into my Capital One accounts with Moneydance.

Also, Capital One simply will not allow downloads of QFX files. No option. I know some folks say they can, but I cannot and the bank confirmed it. My only option is to download csv files. The transactions download to csv just fine. Gives day, payee, and amount. However, when you import the csv to Moneydance, about 1/3 of the transactions come up with a zero value or with a value less than a dollar. Incorrect. I have tried this numerous time with the same result—a correct csv file but incorrect import. Frankly, the csv import is trash in Moneydance.

The only “less bad” news is that Capital One 360 will still allows Moneydance to connect. You have to go onto the 360 site and make up a new password. So Moneydance has its password, and it is different from your normal web login password.

Also, Capital One 360 will allow a QFX download.

I am totally pissed at Capital One—they knew users are doing online banking, but there was no effort to let us know about changes. However, all I can do is bitch or change banks. I am just bitching now.

So, it appears that there are only three choices:

Move your account payment process to Capital One 360 (this is what I am doing for now).

Move your bank to one that is supported by Moneydance.

Change to Quicken, which is supported by Capital One.

I hope that Moneydance can accommodate Capital One in the future—the near future.

Then I had to manually input almost an entire year of transactions. I switched to Moneydance and now the same. It makes me wonder if there is a payoff for these companies to be associated with a certain program. Beyond exceptable....frustrating, and ridiculous!!!
(I'm using Firefox Quantum 57.0.4 on MacOSX High Sierra). This file imported correctly into Moneydance (2017.5). The default 100 transactions (and now real ability to filter that) is annoying. I will miss being able to do Direct Connect, it was very convenient to pay bills directly out of MD.

I did notice on the Quicken support page for the Capital One Direct Connect transition (link below) that Intuit mentions they are working with Capital One to port to a new API-based access in 2018. To Ian or the other MD support folks, is there a new financial standard API coming down the pike or are banks moving to custom API's? Is this something MD would potentially support?

Thanks. I am on High Sierra and have tried Safari and Chrome. I can only download csv files from Capital One on either browser. I can do QFX from Capital One 360. I cannot upload transactions on either site.

So I don’t know why you can do it and I cannot.

I would be ok with downloading csv files, but one-third or more of the transactions are imported incorrectly into MoneyDance. The csv file is correct, but MD imports the balance incorrectly.

I also hope that MD can get this squared away.

See helpful part of chat session below (full chat session attached). So I would work with Capital One to make sure you are on the latest platform and get your accounts consolidated. And remember, they have branches still and the people at the desks are very helpful, so it might be a better experience going to a branch, although maybe not as convenient. Sometimes they have coffee and snacks. Good luck.

Curtis: It should bring down a dropdown menu where you can select to download transactions as CSV, QFX or QBO (the last two are more Quicken/Quickbooks specific).

Me: Yes, that is what I see, I just wanted to hear it from you. I know of Capital One Bank users who say they can only download CSV for some reason. One of them called Capital One support and was told Capital One Bank only supports CSV for downloads.

Curtis: It's a little tricky right now because we're in the middle of migrating our customers to the new site platform. Therefore, different people, depending on what platform they're on may have different options for now. Also, whether it's 360 accounts or regular Capital One accounts also comes into play with this. CSV does indeed seem to be the most consistent at this point though.

Me: Funny you should mention that. He insists he has to login to separate accounts to access his Capital One Bank and Capital One 360 accounts. And when he logs into his Capital One 360 account, he can export QFX. So I was thinking the same thing, he hasn't gotten his accounts consolidated yet. Do you think that would do it?

Curtis: Yes! For sure. Once he's migrated over and we get all the kinks worked out (it's still not perfected) that should help a lot. If he's still on the separate platforms now though, then yes, it's very possible he'd see different options within the different portals.

ppinoccitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/443955122018-01-13T16:33:15Z2018-01-13T16:33:16ZCapital One Banking OFX problem

Hi ppinocci:

Thank you. That at least solves the mystery of the csv.

I am not enthralled with the working to get “all the kinks worked out (it's still not perfected),” but at least we know we aren’t nuts.

However, they dropped OFX bill pay a few years ago - around 2013 if I remember right.
