Capital One 360 accounts still supports the direct connect so no need to manually download transactions (yet). Interestingly though, their manual Download Transactions option let's you select the date range of transactions to download. For your issue, it would be interesting to see if you have a Windows computer available to you to try it to see if the issue is with the platform or your account. For your issue, Capital One's Chat or Phone tech support should be able to help you.

ppinoccitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/443955122018-01-06T13:01:20Z2018-01-06T13:01:21ZCapital One Banking OFX problem

Hi:

I went to the URL you sent, and it allows me to login. And, as you say, it has a selection for Quicken and Money QFX files.

But the only account that downloads is my Capital One 360 account. My regular Capital One account will not download.

So, have you actually downloaded a QFX file from a Capital One account (not Capital One 360). I have found nothing. I’ll try to call Capital One on Monday when the online banking folks are in the office. (If you call after non-working hours, you get a person, but they are only phone-answerers. They don’t really know the innards.)

Appreciate your assistance. If you can see where I am missing something, please let me know.

Well, I spent some time on the phone with Capital One. It was not very satisfying. Basically, unless Moneydance “dances” with the new exchange protocol, there will be no sharing or uploading of data with Capital One. In fact, I can’t even log into my Capital One accounts with Moneydance.

Also, Capital One simply will not allow downloads of QFX files. No option. I know some folks say they can, but I cannot and the bank confirmed it. My only option is to download csv files. The transactions download to csv just fine. Gives day, payee, and amount. However, when you import the csv to Moneydance, about 1/3 of the transactions come up with a zero value or with a value less than a dollar. Incorrect. I have tried this numerous time with the same result—a correct csv file but incorrect import. Frankly, the csv import is trash in Moneydance.

The only “less bad” news is that Capital One 360 will still allows Moneydance to connect. You have to go onto the 360 site and make up a new password. So Moneydance has its password, and it is different from your normal web login password.

Also, Capital One 360 will allow a QFX download.

I am totally pissed at Capital One—they knew users are doing online banking, but there was no effort to let us know about changes. However, all I can do is bitch or change banks. I am just bitching now.

So, it appears that there are only three choices:

Move your account payment process to Capital One 360 (this is what I am doing for now).

Move your bank to one that is supported by Moneydance.

Change to Quicken, which is supported by Capital One.

I hope that Moneydance can accommodate Capital One in the future—the near future.

(I'm using Firefox Quantum 57.0.4 on MacOSX High Sierra). This file imported correctly into Moneydance (2017.5). The default 100 transactions (and now real ability to filter that) is annoying. I will miss being able to do Direct Connect, it was very convenient to pay bills directly out of MD.

I did notice on the Quicken support page for the Capital One Direct Connect transition (link below) that Intuit mentions they are working with Capital One to port to a new API-based access in 2018. To Ian or the other MD support folks, is there a new financial standard API coming down the pike or are banks moving to custom API's? Is this something MD would potentially support?

Thanks. I am on High Sierra and have tried Safari and Chrome. I can only download csv files from Capital One on either browser. I can do QFX from Capital One 360. I cannot upload transactions on either site.

So I don’t know why you can do it and I cannot.

I would be ok with downloading csv files, but one-third or more of the transactions are imported incorrectly into MoneyDance. The csv file is correct, but MD imports the balance incorrectly.

I also hope that MD can get this squared away.

See helpful part of chat session below (full chat session attached). So I would work with Capital One to make sure you are on the latest platform and get your accounts consolidated. And remember, they have branches still and the people at the desks are very helpful, so it might be a better experience going to a branch, although maybe not as convenient. Sometimes they have coffee and snacks. Good luck.

Curtis: It should bring down a dropdown menu where you can select to download transactions as CSV, QFX or QBO (the last two are more Quicken/Quickbooks specific).

Me: Yes, that is what I see, I just wanted to hear it from you. I know of Capital One Bank users who say they can only download CSV for some reason. One of them called Capital One support and was told Capital One Bank only supports CSV for downloads.

Curtis: It's a little tricky right now because we're in the middle of migrating our customers to the new site platform. Therefore, different people, depending on what platform they're on may have different options for now. Also, whether it's 360 accounts or regular Capital One accounts also comes into play with this. CSV does indeed seem to be the most consistent at this point though.

Me: Funny you should mention that. He insists he has to login to separate accounts to access his Capital One Bank and Capital One 360 accounts. And when he logs into his Capital One 360 account, he can export QFX. So I was thinking the same thing, he hasn't gotten his accounts consolidated yet. Do you think that would do it?

Curtis: Yes! For sure. Once he's migrated over and we get all the kinks worked out (it's still not perfected) that should help a lot. If he's still on the separate platforms now though, then yes, it's very possible he'd see different options within the different portals.

ppinoccitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/443955122018-01-13T16:33:15Z2018-01-13T16:33:16ZCapital One Banking OFX problem

Hi ppinocci:

Thank you. That at least solves the mystery of the csv.

I am not enthralled with the working to get “all the kinks worked out (it's still not perfected),” but at least we know we aren’t nuts.

They don't have a clue and there is NO tech support you can talk with. The Capital One 360 is still listed on the accounts page when you go to set up a new account. This is so very frustrating!

However, they dropped OFX bill pay a few years ago - around 2013 if I remember right.

BTW, I noticed these posts while looking for Capital One Investing problems as my accounts there have stopped direct connecting as of last Sat. Cap1 Investing has had a couple of outages in the recent past so I wonder if they may be dropping OFX.
