bank pasword change prevents logon with moneydance
I changed my account password for Wells Fargo and now I cannot logon with MoneyDance. I go through the steps to change my password in money dance but get the following message, even though I can logon at the Wells Fargo website with the identical user name and password that I am using in MoneyDance..
"The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution.
Additional information from the server:
The user cannot signon because he or she entered an invalid user ID
or password."

Hi Ken,
Can you try re-creating your connection with your financial institution and see if that fixes the issue that you're seeing? You will need to disable your current connection to your bank and then recreate it using the New Connection button on the Online Banking Setup screen. To do so, you can follow these steps:
1. Select your bank account in Moneydance
2. Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu
3. Click the "Disable" button. If you don't see a disable button, just close the setup window.
4. Repeat the previous steps for any additional accounts at the same institution.
5. Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)
6. Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK
7. Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password
Make sure you pick new connection, **even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it.** Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.
Please let me know if you continue to have connection problems after recreating your connection.

Hi Ken,
If in the event that the solution Scott gave doesn't resolve the issue, try the 'Forget Online Passwords' menu option listed under the 'Online' menu.
Be advised that using 'Forget Online Passwords' will cause Moneydance to forget ALL online passwords for ALL accounts. Make sure that you have access to all of your online passwords beforehand.

Hi Scott,
I went through your prescribed steps exactly. Then, via new connection, tried to connect. Failure. Then I tried counting characters and found that my new Wells Fargo password is 16 characters but you only acknowledge 15 dots/characters (undocumented). So I established a new password for Wells Fargo (15 characters), checked it on their website and verified operation, and went back into MoneyDance to connect under new connection. This time I got
“The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution.
Additional information from the server:
The user cannot signon because he or she entered an invalid user ID or password.”
What is your acceptable password length? Any other restrictions? I am using upper and lower case and numerals only.
Kind regards,
Ken

Got it!
I now have discovered that Wells Fargo will only process 14 character passwords, even though it will accept and show more characters entered. Money Dance seems to work now.
Kind regards,
Ken

Dear Scott and Kevin,
I thought the problem was completely solved but, not quite.
Per my last email to Scott, I got the password working by limiting it to 14 characters, so now I am connecting with Wells Fargo, where I have several accounts. One is primary and that has bill pay enabled. MoneyDance appears to go through the connection procedure for each account (too fast to see all accounts) but, when finished, no new data has been downloaded for my primary account. The last entry in the register is 20 July 2015, when I last successfully used MoneyDance. I do get some data from other accounts and from other banks. Downloads for this WF account used to work fine but not now. Any thoughts?
Kind regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,
I'm glad to hear that you're making some progress!
Can you try selecting your primary Wells Fargo account in the left sidebar column of Moneydance, then go to Online -> Setup online banking, then click the Reset Sync button and see if the newer transactions download then? This resets the syncing date, which may get Moneydance to pull in the missing transactions.

HI Scott,
It seems that the password for that account was not properly registered during the re-connect. Once I got that fixed, all is OK.
