Decimals in currencies

Something I was happy to find in MD is the ability to choose the number of decimal places displayed in amounts in a particular currency. (I don't think you can change it in an existing currency, but you can specify it for a new currency – and of course you can always give an old currency a slightly different name and pretend that it's a new one.) It's something I always wished for in my former life as a Windows Quicken user.

My home currency at the time was the Belgian franc, one of the many currencies whose value is so low that no sub-units (pennies or cents or whatever) exist – or, if they do exist, they are not shown on bank statements, invoices, etc, so the decimals are just a waste of space. The Belgian franc became extinct when the euro arrived, but there are several others, notably the Japanese yen.

There are a couple of minor bonuses: at the other end of the scale, there are a few currencies with high values whose sub-unit is one-thousandth, not one-hundredth. And even if sub-units exist, you may not need them, i.e. you may be happy to have rounded values in registers and reports.

It's not hugely important, but it's nice to have the choice.

    Hi a.beattie,

Thanks for the currency suggestion--I will forward it to our developer.

I'm glad the currencies are flexible enough for you to use!
