What's brought me to Moneydance

I'm not coming from Money or Quicken or any dedicated finance application but I've used both MS Money and Quicken at some point during the last 20 years. In the end I found both of them over-complicated for what I wanted to do so for the last few years I've managed my finances on my PC using spreadsheets. This works well for me, so long as I'm in front of my PC, but now I'm finding it frustrating to not have the info available on my iOS devices and automatically synced to my PC over the Internet (having to do an explicit WiFi sync doesn't cut it for me). I've looked at various solutions but a lot of the good looking iOS apps that do internet syncing with a desktop companion app only have the desktop app available for the Mac so for me the killer feature of Moneydance is the iOS Dropbox sync plus the fact that there is a desktop version for Windows. I also like the fact that the home screen on the desktop app is so configurable so that I can strip out things that I don't want.

If I was to level a criticism then I'd have to say that I'm a bit disappointed at how basic the iOS apps are. I realise that you've probably invested a lot of your development effort in the Dropbox syncing and, as already mentioned above, that was effort very well spent. Also, I tend to do most of my finances on my PC so that is the key platform for me and I can understand if you don't see the iOS apps as being fully-featured clones of the deskop version but I really hope that you do plan to add at least a bit more capability and polish to the iOS apps because they are pretty basic. As an example, as far as I can see acount transactions in the register display on iOS are sorted in reverse date order with no option to change it to forward date order which I find really frustrating to the extent of making it virtually unusable for me. I'll make some specific comments and suggestions on the iOS app in the iOS related sections.

Oh, the other thing that I like about Moneydance is the support. From what I've seen browsing this forum the support staff are really highly engaged with their customers on this board and seem to take feature requests seriously.

    Hi Julian,

Thanks for the praise of Moneydance! We are working to improve the iOS app and include additional functionality, though I currently don't have a timeline for any new releases or what they will include, so I'm sorry I don't have clearer or better news on that front.

We do try our best to provide very high quality support! We may not succeed every time, but we are constantly working to improve.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask!
