Getting Help
Thank you guys so much for the thoughtful personalized help you
provide in the public discussion area. I have been using Quicken
for years and getting help was almost impossible. In fact getting
their "support staff" to read an email all the way through was a
challenge. I am a new and enthusiastic Moneydance user, and my
questions are answered quickly by people who really understand the
program.
Thanks so much.
Bonnie

You are most welcome! I appreciate you for your supportive words. Our support system if far from perfect (some cases are still not responded to in a timely manner) but we are getting there.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Seriously--you got a respone? I can't get anyone to respond to me from MD. I have totally given up on this software.

Beth - where are your questions? I did a search for Beth and I only came up with 4 discussions.

I entered my problems under Private several days ago. then I went in and
added info the next night. then I finally posted to the blog you are
referring to in this e-mail cause I figured maybe you guys paid more
attention to "praise" than to a person wanting a refund. I have
uninstalled Moneydance and given up. How do i get a refund?

Beth
I am exrtemely sorry that noone of the support staff has responded to your post sooner. I have replied in your origional post offering some technical advice. However if you are sure you would prefer a refund respond confirming that and I will authorize one for you this morning.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Ben--I just got this message--I will try downloading the newer version that
you sent and then e-mail again after I try that.
7 Posted by bchristi on 13 Feb, 2010 07:42 PM
Ben,
I tried using the link you sent to download the newer version and I only
have the same situation. I have the Moneydance icon on the bottom of my
Win 7 screen but when you click on it nothing happens. When I right click
on it maximize is not an option. When I go to "All Programs" and click on
it from there nothing happens. I guess I am just not going to be a
Moneydance user. Please send me a refund and I will uninstall what I have
here.
Just FYI in case you are trying to debug this problem I downloaded the
preview from online on Sunday. (I have a brand new HP laptop that is
running Win 7.) I entered all the accounts and jan and feb financial
data, reached 100 transactions and then paid to have the full version. The
next time I started up my laptop which I believe was on Tuesday night this
is when I first encountered the "ghost" of Moneydance. It looks like it is
there but nothing will happen.
Thank you for responding to me and trying to help me.

Hi Beth
On windows 7 the maximize option is accessed slightly differently. Hovering the mouse pointer over the icon in the task bar causes a thumbnail to appear. Then right clicking on the thumbnail gets the "Maximum" option.

Ben--can you help me with a different problem? Now that my data is
accessible I will ask what was stumping me before everything just
disappeared.
For an investment account: I have a janney mont scott investment account
that consists of a cash balance and also some stocks. I have the account
set up and the cash balance showing up, but I can't seem to get my three
stocks to show up inthe account. I have added the securities and I have
entered history, but when I go to portfolio view there is nothing there
except the cash balance. I want my entire balance to show up.
Then, assuming I can get my securities to show up how do I have it go
online and update to the most recent stock price for each? I used to do
that daily on Quicken.
thanks,
Beth

Hi Ben,
Well, it has been a few days since I was on my computer, and tonight I
turned it on and there is no Moneydance icon. The program doesn't show up
in all programs either. I did a search of my C drive and I can find many
moneydance files saved there. I can't figure out what to do. Should I
download this again? this will be the fourth time. I have my fingers
crossed that once again my data is there once I get the program to show up.
I tried to copy/paste the big list of files but it won't work. Do you have
any idea what I should do? or why this keeps happening?

Hi Beth
I realize this must be very frustrating and I am sorry for the trouble this is causing you.
Moneydance does not have the capability to delete its self from your computer (at least not unless you run the uninstall program). If the icon on your desktop has been removed it has either been removed by a clean up job run by your operating system or it has inadvertently been removed by a user. I know that windows has a feature that hides infrequently used programs from the All Programs list. Is there an arrow at the bottom of that list. If there is click it to reveal infrequently used programs. If that doesn't help you have two options. You can manually recreate the short cuts on the desktop and the All programs list or you can reinstall the software. The first option is somewhat technical so if i were you I would reinstall the software. Your data will not be affected.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Thanks Ben. I did reinstall the software again and once again
everything was there. I have also uninstalled the trial version of
norton antivirus, and switched to AVG, to see if maybe the norton was
doing something to it. I am almost afraid to turn it on again!

Hi Ben,
I am having some new problems that I need help with.
1. I have an account with Janney Montgomery Scott that contains some
securities and a sweep account that is essentially a money market. I have
it set up with the securities and a "cash balance" that is the money
market. I recently deposited another $4500 into this account paid by a
check from my checking account. I can't enter a "deposit" into the janney
Investment account. How do I get the money showing up there?
2. I have a TIAA-CREF retirement account that I put money into each pay,
and my employer matches. I read a help discussion back in January and used
that to set up a "Retirement Holding" account in MD. (which was one of two
options they suggested to handle this) Each pay the amount that is going
into TIAA-CREF, both mine and my employer's goes into the Retirement
Holding account. and now that the quarterly report is here I wanted to
transfer that balance into the correct TIAA-CREF investments. Now I can't
find the help discussion that says what to do at this point. I should have
saved it.
3. When I try to download the MD user's guide it just get a blank page.
can you help?

Hi Beth
1) You can enter a deposit directly into an investment account by doing a transfer from an income category. See the attached screenshot for an example.
2) To transfer into your TIAA-CREF investment account enter a transaction of type Xfr in the investment register as in #1. And specify the "Retirement Holding" account in the transfer field.
3) I'm not sure which link you are using. Try the following one:

Hi Ben--thanks for the link to the user's guide. I tried the XFr idea to
get my money from checking to the Janney account. the only problem is I
had already recorded the check there. Now the transaction is duplicated.
Is there a way I can write a check out of checking and have that go into
Janney investment. Or a way to merge these two transactions?
Thanks,
Beth

Absolutely. You can enter a transaction in your checking account and select the Janney investment account as the category. That will perform a transfer.
