Moneydance
I have used Moneydance successfully for 1 number of years on my Laptop computer. It has been an excellent product that has been a very important part of managing my home finances.
Indeed it is so good that, now my laptop is showing signs of increasing age, I would like to transfer the package and its data to a new computer which I have just purchased.
I would be happy to purchase a new copy of Moneydance for the new computer but if I do that how can I share the data between the two copies of Moneydance?

Jerry,
You have a couple of potential options
Firstly, for private use you are allowed to use Moneydance on as many computers as you like for the purchase cost of one license. This applies to Moneydance that is purchased directly from the IK website, I cannot speak about other sites like the Mac store, Amazon etc.
For Moneydance 2015 and earlier (excl copies purchased from the Mac App Store) you can place you data files on a shared location, dropbox is specifically recommended, other services could be potentially problematic depending on how they work. This makes the data accessible from multiple computers BUT you can only use the data on one machine at a time as there is no simultaneous file sharing. This method has suited many users over the years.
This solution is documented in the Knowledge Base paper:
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/program-basics/sharing-data-via-two...
Note that you should identical version, incl build number, on both machines.
With Moneydance 2017 there is a new method that does permit simultaneous access, this method should prove to be superior. This method is documented in the Knowledge Base paper at:
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2017/sharing-data-using-....
As a user of a previous version you should be entitled to a 50% discount on purchasing an upgrade if you purchased MD 2014 or earlier, if you purchased MD 2015 then the upgrade is free.
Hopefully this gives you a starting point.

Hi,
Many thanks for your kind and rapid response. I do, as you guessed, only want to use Moneydance on only one computer at a time so am more than happy with the file “locking” you mention. I simply would like to keep the file in a shared are on the network and have both copies of the executable to have lone access to the shared file.

Option 1 should suit you then and you can use your current version of MD.
Previous versions of Moneydance can be downloaded from:
