I put this in the category of Praise because I have nothing but praise for Moneydance.

However I do want to ask about the extension that downloads my stock quotes. I have been using it for many years. It always has run faster than I can read it. But a week or two ago it started running really slowly. What took 10 seconds before, now takes 10 minutes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the extension. I have 2014.5. I have not added any quotes to the list to download. I am also getting an error message regarding the history download. It doesn't stay on the screen very long, but I think it is saying there was error due to a time out. Then it downloads the current price. I think the problem is resulting in it not updating history, but taking a long time trying. If I download every day, I am OK, but if I miss some days, there is no going back.

Just to recap, when I start the download there is a long delay where it looks like it is not doing anything. Then I get the error message regarding not being able to download history for the first mutual fund. Then I get a download of the current price for the first mutual fund. Then there is another long delay. Then I get the error message for the second mutual fund. Then I get a download of the current price for the second mutual fund. Etc. And this behavior just started recently.

Yahoo have discontinued their API hence why you are getting timeouts as the download fails.

You could try Google Finance for historical quite or manually download and import them, there are a number of tools that can help with this but I do not think it is as good as an automated solution.

I do not think there are too many alternative options around hence I suspect this problem is causing TIK some headaches to try and come up with a workable solution..

Ouch. In the early 2000s, I was using Microsoft Money. Then they stopped updating stock prices. It was then that I found Moneydance. I have been very happy with MD. This is a bit of a setback.

I tried using Google for history and Yahoo for current. It ran faster, but still many errors.

I tried “don’t update” for history and Yahoo for current. This ran very fast and had no errors.

It is a rare day that I DON’T open up MD, so I will be fine with this workaround.

    Thank you.
