GNUCash worked well, but lacked some advanced features (receipt attachment issues and file handling, mostly). Gave YNAB a whirl, and then they discontinued their standalone and went subscription-based, and I found the interface a little too awkward. Stuck with Quicken Premiere 2017 which ran the numbers, but had a host of other issues (unusable on 4k monitors, 7 summary pages that I never used that took up 80% of the screen, split transactions wouldn't expense correctly and would throw off my income numbers, and minimal customization options). In retrospect, Quicken has been one of the most bloated, frilly, and frustrating pieces of software I've ever used. I would rather build an accounting database from scratch in MS Access than use Quicken again - if that doesn't speak of despair, then I don't know what does.

So I do my usual web searches and come back around to MoneyDance. After dealing with the others, I appreciate the layout and the customization, especially something so simple as to be able to customize themes. The summary page shows me useful information and stuff I care about. I've also found the reports much easier to create and maintain, and easier to read than the reports I tried to use in that "other" software.

And THEN, I find out I can script stuff in Python?! Where has this been all my life?

All in all, this post is just me wanting to say "thank you" to the developers of MoneyDance for making software that just plain works. You've made one customer who suffers from arguable degrees of numerical OCD very happy. Looking forward to the new way to manage my finances and exploring what all I can script for extensions.

Thanks so much for the kind comments! I'm also very happy you like the Python support. I've been slowly working on some big feature that builds on that :)

Cheers,
