MD 2024.1 (5118) - Foresight bug - doesn't complete forecast for requested time span
Hello.
I have a Foresight Forecast normally set to view a 3 month period. However, from that starting point I wanted to extend the forecast to be 18 months. On clicking the Calculate button the forecast started OK but stopped well short of the 18 months requested. In fact it stopped producing the graph after 9 months. On trying again for a forecast of 12 months a similar problem occurs: i.e. it stopped after 6 months!

According to my sources, this is a known bug that is being worked on for the next release.

Hi Maddy,
Thank you for providing that download link. The updated version does resolve the issue.
That said, it did seem to have a significant pause before the extended graph was produced.
I went from a 3 month to a 9 month and then again to an 18 month period. The 3 month was done as expected for my default graph but there a definite pause before the 9 month extensiion to the grpah was produced and again on extending it again to the 18 month period. Perhaps, it was just the new version 'bedding-in'.
Cheers
Eric

Please feel free to send us your error log generated while the delay occurs and I will refer your query to the development team for further advice.
They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.
You can get to your error logs as follow:
1) navigate to Help->Console Window to show the console log in a window
or
2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support
into the field and press enter/return.At that point the finder will show an internal folder containing the errlog.txt file which includes the log.
Finally you can paste the full content to your next reply.
To add an attachment to this thread, please click on the "Browse" button.
Thank you

Hi Maddy,
I have tried repeating the forecast test and whilst the behaviour remains the same I do not see anything in the error.txt file that has any bearing on the forecast process.
So, unless there is another process monitoring option, there is no evidence for the development team to review.
Cheers
Eric

I'm sorry to hear that the issue persists, Eric!
I believe this specific problem was fixed in the new alpha version, if you wish to try it. I'd recommend taking a manual backup prior to installing this version - just in case!
Also, I've flagged your discussion and we will notify you when the new preview is released.

Hi Maddy,
The latest (?) version of MD and The Foresight Forecast has another issue (for me anyway) in that it is very difficult to read the Txn amount values because the font beings used is extremely faint.
I had a look at the Options > Account Options... to see if the colours could be adjusted but could not see an item for the Txn Amount colours.
Have I missed something?
TIA
Cheers
Eric

We recommend overwriting or manually removing the older version.

Hi Maddy,
Thank you for the link to the latest version.
Unfortunately it does not address the problem with the forecast txn amount font being almost impossible to read. See attached screen-grab (columns deliberately condensed for example).
Is there an option to change that specific font and/or colours?
TIA
Cheers
Eric

In order to customize the Foresight Forecast colours you should navigate to Moneydance->Preferences->Appearance. Click Customize on the 'Theme' and find the setting for "Icon color for income categories" and "Icon color for expense categories".
Change them to a lighter color of green and red if you prefer, and click all the OK's to accept. Restart Moneydance for the change to be applied!
Also, switching to an overall darker theme from Preference might help, as well.
Lastly, launch Foresight Forecast and choose Options->Account Options. If you double click on the 'Colors' column, you should be able to customize the colour in the resulting window.
As for the column's size in the 'Transactions tab', these can be dragged/adjusted by pointing in between columns and dragging them sideways using the arrow.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Hi Maddy,
Thank you for your email.
Counterintuitively, the colour setting that I had to change was in the MD Settings>Appearance>Theme>Customize.. viz: "color for income categories", and "color for expense categories" rather in the Foresight Forecast options.
Anyway, your suggestions put me on the right path to resolving this for me, thank you.
Cheers
Eric
PS: is there an option for MD to use British spellings for the UI? The Locale setting is "English (United Kingdom)" but that is not reflected in the UI.

I'm a fellow Moneydance user.
That should have, for example changed Check to Cheque, what did it not change?
16 Posted by Eric Ingram on 18 Jun, 2024 10:25 AM
Hello.
In Settings, for example, despite the locale being set to English (United Kingdom), in the Appearance tab is the "Customize..." button rather than "Customise...", and then in the "Customize..." settings the word "color" rather than "colour" is used.
There may be other examples.
Cheers
Eric

Most of the code base of Moneydance changed in 2023, so what you describe would be inserting code in one language into an entirely different one. (Doable, but not the intent of the code base change)

@eric. I understand this (English translations) is fixed for 5144 preview.
20 Posted by Eric Ingram on 17 Aug, 2024 09:59 AM
Thanks.
It was also fixed by 5141 and I've been using that for a few weeks. Producing the graph still seems slow to me but the feature is still used a lot.
Cheers
Eric
