    Hello Robert,

Can you clarify what you mean when you say that you restarted the computer and Moneydance is still frozen. If you restarted the computer, it shouldn't be open at all. Do you mean that you now cannot open it?

This gets stranger by the moment. I could not quit/exit from the
Moneydance program. Tried force quit of moneydance but it would not
    quit. Shut down the computer.
waited 10 minutes. started up computer (Mac G4 running OS 10.5) and
tried to open moneydance program but it would not open EXCEPT, in the
    menu bar, moneydance showed
up with drop down of preverences, etc. but if you select anything
under that drop down, nothing happened, and none of the other items in
the menu bar (file, edit, accounts, etc) show up
    at all.

Then I was working in a totally different program about five minutes
later (in an e-mail program) and all of a sudden the "lost" file
(checking account) popped open on the screen, and
has been there ever since. I closed the program (moneydance) and
reopened the program (moneydance) and now it seems to operate
    normally. ???

    Robert,

I am not sure what happened. If you experience anything out of the ordinary again, please let me know and we'll figure out what's going on.

My MD froze just now when I was in "Edit Securities," & wanted to see what would happen when I tried to delete a security. A window opened that said I could not delete the security because it was in use (or something similar). I closed the message, but now cannot get MD to respond. I cannot close or otherwise do anything else with the "Edit Securities" window....I just used Windows Task Manager to force MD to close, & fortunately that worked.

Are you able to reopen the program? If so please do and select Help->Console window and try to reproduce the problem. If the problem occurs detailed error output will be sent to the console. Please copy and paste that output to this discussion.

    Sincerely
    Ben Spencer

OK. I just did it. I opened the Console window, then went back & created a dummy investment ("Test") & associated security ("Test Sec"). Then I tried to delete Test Sec while the investment window was open & got the error message. Now MD is frozen.

My problem is that with MD frozen, I can't access the Console window in order to copy & paste the output. Any suggestion? For now I haven't forced MD to close, but will if I don't hear from you soon. Last time MD crashed, when I reopened it, it told me I had a choice of whether to use the auto-save or some other newer file (or something to that effect). I think I chose the newest file, but am not sure that was the wisest way to go or if it made any difference at all.

BTW, I did get a picture of the error message, but am thinking that probably won't help you. Let me know if you would like it.

If the console window is open could you take a screenshot of it?

It's open, but I can't see it. When I click on it on the task bar, only the frozen screen appears. It doesn't keep a record of the problem, does it? Once I close MD & reopen it, the console window will have "lost" the data, right? I guess I'll find out.

Yes the console window will have lost the data on a restart. However the error may have been written to the error log file. Look under C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name.moneydance\errlog.txt

I reopened MD & opened the Console Window, but as you probably knew, nothing was saved there. Anyway, I arranged the 2 windows so I could see both the console & the main windows at the same time. Then I tried to recreate the problem, but this time it worked just fine. After the error message, the software did not freeze.

Didn't see your answer until after I posted mine. Here's the error log, but to my untrained eye, it doesn't appear to have the info you'd need:

Just to clarify, when you are deleting the security are you selecting Tools->Edit Securities, selecting a security and clicking the delete button? When I do this I am not able to reproduce the crash. I want to determine is this is something related to your data file or your installation of Moneydance. Can you try reproducing the problem with a new Moneydance data file. Select File->New to create a new file. (You can get back to your old file by selecting File->Open Recent).

If the problem occurs in the new file as well then given that I cannot reproduce it it is likely that the problem lies in you Moneydance or java installation. In which case I recommend un-installing Moneydance and downloading the latest version of Moneydance with java for windows from our website.

If the problem does not occur in the new data file then perhaps something has become corrupted with your other file. In that case would you be willing to privately email be your data file. My email is [email blocked]

    Sincerely
    Ben Spencer

I'm not able to duplicate it any longer either. It seems to be working fine again. I did try it with another MD data file, but I didn't have any trouble with that one either.

Thank you for working with me on this, even though we didn't really resolve it. I appreciate MD support's responsiveness.

I contacted you last week about Monedance freezing up.

I purchased Moneydance 2003 back on Nov. 21, 2003, which I never had a problem with.

I purchased the 2010 upgrade version on Apr. 19, 2010, which worked fine until last week. That is when the freezing started.

I was told by you to download and reinstall Moneydance, but it may still not solve the problem.

I reinstalled it and it worked until yesterday. I reinstalled it again and it still does not work.

I inform you in the last discussion that I would contact you if there still was a problem. Well, there's a problem.

I feel since you knew already that it probably would not work that I should be reimbursed my $24.99 so I can purchase an application that WILL WORK, unless you can fix the problem.

I purchased Moneydance 2003 on November 21, 2003, which worked fine all these years.

I purchased an upgrade to Moneydance 2010 on April 19, 2019, which worked fine until last week.

I went on your website and contacted Ben Spencer, your support staff, and discussed the problem of Moneydance freezing and locking up. He told me to reinstall the program, but it may still not fix the problem with it freezing up.

I reinstalled Moneydance and it was working fine until yesterday. I reinstalled it again and still no go.

I also tried to install the Moneydance application on my brand new Mac and it will not work on that one either.

I have a Mac running OS 10.5 and one running OS 10.6.4.

I feel I since Ben already knew that it probably would not work, that I should be reimbursed my money so I can purchase an application that WILL WORK, unless you can resolve this problem.

I hope you can handle this request expeditiously so I can continue to keep my financial records current.

    Thank you,

    Katrina A. Wiley
