CSV import stopped working
I’m an experienced Moneydance user who has been happily importing multiple CSV files created in Excel every month for nearly 2 years using the Text File Importer extension. Suddenly it won’t work. Nothing happens after I click the “Finish” button. I've tried multiple accounts. Perhaps it’s because I upgraded to Version 2024.1 (5118).
I reviewed the online instructions to confirm I’m using the Text File Importer extension correctly. I also installed the CSV Importer. All it does is tell me “Unsupported CSV file format.”
Please help.

Well, first of all you can go back to 5064 (or have both 5064 and 5118 available - I name multiple instances Moneydance 5064 or Moneydance 5118 or Moneydance Alpha 5129 for example) - that way you can keep working until this is figured out.
I personally don't know much about CSV importing but this might keep you going while you still ask for assistance.

As for syncing, if you do that, just open the same file (but not in an alpha, but that's just me)... you are supposed to use the "same version" on all machines, but no syncing changes have been done in the program recently, so it should be ok. Still make more backups during this period.

Here's the file. (I also tried converting it to .txt)

The Text File Importer is quite old so I would not surprise me if it does not work on the latest release.
Most of its functions have been incorporated into the inbuilt CSV importer, accessed through the File => Import menu option. I tested your file using this and it imported successfully. I would expect the user written CSV importer to also work but the reader needs to be set up correctly for this.

Hi. I write the mdcsvimporter extension. I just updated it a few days ago to work with MD2024 and it also has a couple of enhancements (with allowing the process button to be used without preview). You can get it here:

your csv file is simple to use. see working pictures.

Thanks to all!
I figured it out. When I upgraded to the new version, Moneydance started throwing my uploads into a strange space called “Unconfirmed Transactions.” It’s not located in its own window. Instead, it’s an invisible pane within the account window that must be accessed by dragging it upward. Weird! There I found multiple copies of my upload.
I’ve often wondered when I’m reconciling transactions, why they must be confirmed beforehand. That seems redundant. But, at least, they were located in plain sight. Now I must also open up that pane to find them. Is there any way to shut off both the pane and also the need for confirming uploaded transactions?

Hi johnblackii,
To turn off the split register pane, click the icon in the upper, right-hand corner of the register just to the right of the 'New Transaction' button.
Confirming transactions allows Moneydance to 'learn' the correlation between the 'Description' and the 'Category' going forward. Although it may seem redundant, it is a worthwhile venture.
