Insight Financial Credit Union - online connection has errors
My wife and I both use MD (I'm on MD 2010, she uses an older version). In the last couple of days, both versions of MD are throwing this error when we try to download our transactions from the bank:
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the
result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured
server.
Error Description: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:
java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server
Certificate Chain
We've been using MD for several years and have been able to connect to IFCU until just recently. IFCU does not support online bill pay, so we only do the download transactions....
Thanks for the help.

Additional info:
I disabled and attempted to recreate the connection using the "new" button...right, then before the system asks for my account and pin, it throws an error. Here's the contents of the console window:

Hi there,
Would you please let me know what version and build of Moneydance you are using, your OS, and the version of Java you are running? This will assist us in nailing down the issue. I apologize for the late response as well as any inconvience it may have caused you.

It's all in the log file I posted.....I thought a dump of the console window might be helpful.

Angie,
I'm having the same problem . Look at the top of the MD COnsole. There is some error communication with the MD Financial Institutions web site. A 404 error. I'm using 746.

jgohlke,
Could you try updating to the latest version of Moneydance (build 746)? You can download the update from our website at http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions.

jsfrederick is running build 746 and having the same problem. My wife is running MD 2008 and having the same problem.
I'm pretty sure that it's a problem on your end. Looking through the log file (see above), I'm pretty sure that MD is using old security data (I think IFCU recently updated their security certificate or something) and when it creates the secure connection (see the logfile lines with "SSLSocketImpl", it fails just after that), IFCU is not recognizing the security credentials presented by MD and refuses the connection. Based on some testing I did here, I'm sure that these security credentials are downloaded by MD when I try to create a new online banking connection. This data, for IFCU, needs to be refreshed in your database on your end. Then, everybody who uses IFCU and MD will have to create a new online account connection, being sure to use the "NEW" button.
Obviously, I don't have the source code for MD, but the log file has some good clues.

You can easily test this for yourself. Start MD, be sure you are connected to the internet, Select a valid account so that you see the account register, then from the menu:
online
setup online banking
new
pick Insight Financial Credit Union
...this is where you will see the exception.....
You can test this for success by picking a different bank and following the same steps. You should get the screen to enter your account info next. This means that MD has successfully pinged the bank using a secure conection (MD gets the connection from moneydance.com and uses that info to create a secure connection to the bank).
You can further test this by starting the process, just after you pick "setup online banking", disconnect from the internet, you can see that MD throws an error as it fails to connect to moneydance.com to retrieve the bank information.

Hi,
Yes, we're aware that the SSL problem is on our end. I'm right now I'm working with Sean to determine the best solution to the problem. We likely need to update the certificates that ship with Moneydance. I'll let you know when we have a fix released, which will hopefully be in the next week.

I posted on the IFCU Facebook and asked them if they had any information about this issue....here's their comment:
Thank you for bring this solution to our attention. Moneydance requires QIF Format which we do support. If you continue to experience technical issues, our support staff is always here to assist to the fullest extent of their ability. We will be changing our certificate due to the name change. Root Certificates are updated regularly through Windows Updates.

Hi All,
I just wanted to let you know that we're still working on this. I'm having a little bit of trouble getting the updated connection information because it seems that Insight is still i the process of changing over their server. However, once things have settled down a bit on their end, I should be able to get the updated information.
Sorry for the delay. I'll let you know when this is fixed.

Here is the info they posted:
"...update the connection URL from mfaweb.insightfinancialcu.com to mfaweb.insightcreditunion.com. '
IFCU Facebook page visitors report that Quicken connectivity is now working.

Ah! That's what we needed. I'll update our database and let you know when the new connection is available, which should be in the next few days.

Just a heads-up to all those that are watching this thread. Since it's been over a month since we've been able to download our transactions, I'm expecting a big download when it finally comes back online. We've spanned a month-end and while I've been manually tracking my checkbook entries, I decided NOT to reconcile at the end of the month (April). MD Support can correct this if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that MD won't match a reconciled transaction. Reconciling now will ensure many duplicates once the online download is available. Instead, I'm going to wait until I can download from the bank and then reconcile April.
Cheers,
Joe

Hi all,
You're correct, Joe. Moneydance won't match reconciled transactions when you do a download.
Just so you know, we ran into a slight hiccup with fixing this connection, but we're still on it. It should hopefully be up again in the next couple of days.

Hi everyone,
So, we've released a new build of Moneydance that should allow you to connect to Insight again. You can download build 749 form our website at http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta. Please update and let me know if you can connect again. Hopefully this will work!

Downloaded the new build (749), setup a "new" connection (Insight CU in the list) and was able to successfully download my transactions from the bank. Thanks! Working just fine.
It was my first time using the new build with the "enhanced" transaction matching. Ouch! It's awful. Sorry, but it is. I had to agree to a months worth of transactions, so I got some practice, but still had no idea what I was agreeing to...the stripes change color, there isn't any obvious way to tell what's what...it's just plain terrible. And to make it worse, it "adjusts" your registry with the downloaded transactions before they are matched, so there is a minute or two of panic when MD is telling you that you have negative $4000 in your checkbook. If this is your first time using the new process, you gotta have some faith. In the end, there was only 1 MD mistake (2 different registry entries matched to the same downloaded transactions)...easy enough to fix. It all worked out, but I have to say I don't like it.
My wife is still using MD 2008 and after watching me go through the new matching process, she has decided not to upgrade.

Hi Joe,
I'm glad to hear that you're able to connect to Insight again! I'm sorry it took a while to fix.
We've gotten a lot of feedback about the new transaction matching system in Moneydance 2010. We'll be addressing concerns and updating the system to incorporate feedback soon. We'll be putting out the third stable release of 2010 hopefully in the next few days. After that, updating the transaction matching process is a top priority for release 4. Hopefully we'll be able to fix things so that they work much better for our customers. I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with the matching system so far. We're definitely working to improve it.

Interesting.
Thanks for staying on this and working it out. I know IFCU dropped the ball some on this switch over to the new name. They took some crap about it on FB.
As far as I'm concerned, this ticket can be closed.
Is there a place to offer suggestions for the next matching process?

Joe,
Our feature request and bug reporting system is integrated with our wiki. We invite our users to register and use these systems to help improve Moneydance by bringing bugs to our attention and requesting new features. Users can also vote on tickets, which helps us determine how wide-spread bugs are and which requests have the most demand.
The trac system is the best way to give input on improvements to Moneydance. I know there are already several tickets requesting different improvements and alterations to the matching process, two of them can be found here and here. Thanks for sticking with us as we work to create better experiences for our users.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.
