Issues with File Sharing on Mac OS
Hello Support Team,
I recently purchased a new Mac and have migrated my MD file to the new computer. My wife and I use the same computer but log in with different user accounts. I had this working on my previous Mac but for some reason I am unable to get this to work on the new Mac. I have the sharing rules and directory access set with Read/Write the same I did on the previous machine. When she open the file she is basically getting read only access and is unable to save a transaction or close the application. Can you please share with me all of the permissions needed and potentially provide some guidance? Please let me know.
Kind Regards,
Brad

Are you both signed in the same Dropbox account for syncing by Dropbox Folder method? If so it should work. Dropbox Connection is the alternative but I have never understood the point of Dropbox Connection method seems to only have disadvantages!
If you are using iCloud Sync method you both need to be signed in to same iCloud account (which is frowned on by Apple).

Brad,
I assume that you are using Apple File Sharing between your new computer and your spouse's computer.
This is a problem and it is highly NOT recommended to share the original MD file between computers. In fact one should not have the file on a remote networked device at all. It will lead today corruption.
What you should do is install Dropbox on both computers and use the same account. Then within moneydance on the primary computer enable "Syncing". Use the "Dropbox Folder" method of syncing. Then on the secondary computer use the Welcome to Moneydance and create a new file by connecting to the synced data in dropbox.

Or if you want to deal with the complication of using different dropbox accounts, your can share the sync data between two different accounts.

Hello All,
My wife and I are using the same computer but have different users that we login as to keep mail and other applications separate. The MD file in is a shared location on that same Mac. I had this working on a previous Mac for over 10 years. For some reason it’s not working on the new one with the same sharing permissions. I am not using Dropbox or iCloud. I am not a fan of Dropbox and have no interest in using it for this or any purpose.
Thanks,
Brad

So, you are saying there is no chance that you will be simultaneously using that Moneydance file at the same time. (That's what syncing is about, allowing two computers to potentially simultaneously use MD).
Given that you may be providing clarity as to the real issue - your wife cannot access the MD file in read/write mode.
Which I know you said in your original message, but now it's clearer.
As to access permissions, they are complex and sometimes bizarre. I use a mac, and have found them extremely frustrating at times. So, honestly I don't have an answer.

I assume when she does Get Info it says Read & Write, but the owner (Name) can sometimes significantly change what really happens. Like, does it say "Everyone" "Read & Write" ?
That's all I got.

I use a Mac (exclusively) and the problem is fairly straight forward. Permissions with Mac files are generally following the unix/linux model. The issue is that files created in the /Users/Shared folder may not have read write access for all users.
The MD files are what are called a bundle on the Mac. Thus even if you give access to what looks like the data file, all the internal files have their own access criteria. There are simple command line (ie terminal) commands to fix this but there is no guarantee that when MD under one user creates new files internal to the bundle that those files will have read/write access for the other user. This is why syncing is the best solution.
There is the possibility that it could be opened by both users at the same time since the Mac allows user switching and having two accounts logged in and active simultaneously.
All the files are encrypted on the dropbox folder and inaccessible to others. But if you are insistent on not using Dropbox but I now realize that you are both on the same machine, you can use the "Shared Folder" syncing method which should end up doing what you want.
