Hi,

Just installed a trial of Moneydance for MacOS. I have a basic checking account in Turkish Lira and am trying to enter transactions. The problem is that MD isn't accepting decimal figures. For example, there's an expenditure of 1.25 Turkish Lira. When I enter the 1.25, MD rounds this down to 1 TL. I've tried playing with the decimal separator preference (, or .) and it doesn't work. Either MD rounds down (to 1 TL), or ignores the decimal separator if it's the wrong type (125 TL).

This makes MD unusable for me right now. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Zoe

    Hi Zoe

It seems like we have made a mistake when we set up the Turkish Lira currency. The following steps need to be taken in order to resolve the issue.

Delete any accounts that have TL as their currency. DO this by selecting the account and selecting Delete Account fomr the account menu.

    Select Tools->Currencies/Exchange Rates

Select "Turkish Lira" and click the delete button.

    Click the New button.

Enter the properties for the currency as shown in the attached screenshot.

Create your accounts again using the new currency.

I am sorry about the trouble this has caused you.

    Sincerely

    Ben Spencer

OK, it's been a long while. I've just tried following your advice, but things still aren't working. I've created the new TRY currency, but now when I enter a transaction I have to ADD decimal places at the end of each one!

Example: for a deposit of 3000 TL, if I enter 3000 then the amount is recorded as 30,00. I have to enter 300000 to get 3000. In other words, everything has to be multiplied by ten.

If there's something I'm doing wrong, please let me know. I can't believe it's taking this long to get something to work.

I should add that in order to be able to delete the bad TRY currency I had to create a new file with US Dollar as the primary currency. If TRY is the primary currency for a file (even if there are no accounts in it) then you can't delete the currency because it's 'in use' :((. So maybe some of my problems are coming from the primary currency being in USD (even though my account is in TRY).

    Hi Zoe

Select File->Preferences->General and uncheck the option "Auto insert decimal places". Then save the file and restart Moneydance.
