In Summary view, I’m unable to expand or collapse categories such as Cash, Credit Cards, Investment Accounts, etc.

Not seen this problem. Usual questions
What OS? What version of OS
What version of MD? (Including build number)

    Update all extensions....
    Include errlog.txt file.
    (NOT IK Support)

It might depend on WHERE you click. Not necessarily on the little arrow.

If you miss the little arrow and click on the whole title it opens and closes the expansion as well. At least in MD2024.2(5142) MacOS

I've tried clicking on the whole title, and once in a while it works as expected, but it's rare and random.

    Hi David

    You didn’t answer sth questions.

What OS? What version of OS
What version of MD? (Including build number)

    Update all extensions....
    Include errlog.txt file.

@David, TBH, the phrase "but it's rare and random." seems like interference with something outside of MD that is causing a race condition with input devices. Or it is something with the Java build system and your particular OS.

I'm not technically proficient enough to troubled shoot something outside of MD that is causing a race condition with input devices, or if it is something with the Java build system and your particular OS. Might s VPN cause this.

    Hello,

If you are having trouble answering some of the suggested questions, could you send the contents of your error console? Here's how to get the logs:

    1) In Moneydance, click on the Help menu in the Moneydance menu bar and select the Console Window option. This will open the console messages window.
    2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to expand or collapse the accounts on the summary page. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
    3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the Copy to Clipboard button at the bottom to copy the text.
    4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response here.

I followed the link in your latest message. The version that was available to download was 5146 rather than the 5142/3 that you suggested. Not sure how to find that version. After downloading 5146, i restarted my iMac, but I'm seeing the same problem - the expand and collapse function does not work at all now. Previously it would work on occasion.

Are you single clicking or double clicking?
Are you left or right clicking?
Can you send a screenshot and mark/show where exactly you are clicking?

With 5146, can you open help/console again… then try the sidebar again, then go back to console and upload the contents again here.

I've tried every kind of clicking - single click, double click, left click, right click, control click, etc. I've highlighted in a red box, everywhere I've clicked to try to get collapse and expand to work. Nothing. Expanding and collapsing does work for the sub-items under the broad categories of Bank Accounts,. Credit Cards, etc. but not on the headers.

    Hi David,

I'm confused, you stated " I’m unable to expand or collapse categories such as Cash, Credit Cards, Investment Accounts, etc.," however, in your screenshot, Bank Accounts and Investment Accounts are expanded. The only one that isn't is Credit Cards. You can't "expand" the Cash category under Bank Accounts, if you click on Cash, it will take you to the register.

I'm curious if that's the only one giving you a problem. (i.e. If you cllick on the header "Credit Cards" are you saying that that one won't show AAA, Chase and Citibank under it?)

    Just trying to help.

    Regards,

Tony (Fellow user, NOT IK Support)

As per @TonyRI - I also don't understand.. Please mark up your screenshot with which item(s) you are trying to collapse/expand and where exactly you are clicking... The various headings are clearly expanded in your SS already?

    Hi David

In the Summary page not the Side Bar your screen shot shows Bank Accounts expanded (its arrow pointing down) with the accounts listed. The same is true for Investment Accounts.
Credit Cards, not expanded (its arrow pointing to the right) with accounts thus hidden.
    As per @TonyRI & @Suarts- I also don't understand, explain futher.

Yes, the summary page shows Bank Accounts, Investment Account, etc. expanded and Credit Cards collapsed. The problem is that they are frozen. No matter how I click (single click, double click, right click, left click, etc.), the items remain frozen, that is they won't collapse or expand. No matter where I click (on the arrow, around the arrow, on the tile, above the title, below the title), they remain frozen.

Thanks for that clarification. Does this happen every time you close and reopen the app??? It's pretty unusual behavior. I wonder if @sth was on to something.

    Hi David

I wonder what type of mouse you are using, inbuild in computer or external etc?
Do the arrows in the side bar work to expand and collapse account types.
It may be worth trying a different font FILE – PREFERENCES select APPEARANCE.

Yes, this problem occurs every time I close and open the app. l'm using a magic mouse which seems to work fine with every other app I use. The arrows on the side bar expand and collapse as expected. I tried your suggestion of changing the theme in File>Preferences>Appearance, but that failed to make a difference.

    Hi David

Has your computer got a internal mouse or have you got a USB wired mouse you could try.
I seem to remember some types of magic mouse don’t play well with Moneydance.
If the internal or wired mouse works that would pinpoint the issue.

As a test. It’s worth trying a different mouse or built in trackpad.

I think that error with the wireless mouse went away many Java versions ago. @David can you try the following test.
Create a new temporary user in the system preferences
    login as that new user
Open moneydance and create a new account with default categories.
Create a single bank account for example
do the disclosure triangles work now?
This will remove the config.dict errors, possibly local keystroke/mouse interception etc. There is still the possibility of system wide interception.

This is weird, it may take a bit of time to get to the bottom of it.

While it should not be a problem in this case, I would be inclined to rename config.dict run Moneydance, it will come up as a new install so will be in demo mode, open your account set and see if the problem remains. It is a quick test and can potentially eliminate another problem point.

I just completed the test you suggested - created new temporary user; opened MoneyDance; created new account with a single bank account. Unfortunately the arrows are still not working.
