In Summary view, I’m unable to expand or collapse categories such as Cash, Credit Cards, Investment Accounts, etc.

I have an Airbook with a trackpad and expand and collapse work fine. On my iMac I have a magic (wireless) mouse and expand and collapse don't work.

I’m curious… on the summary / home page there are various widgets that can be expanded / collapsed… does the Magic Mouse click all these ok?

That bug was from 2017 and Java 8.

@David, "created new temporary user; opened MoneyDance; created new account with a single bank account. Unfortunately the arrows are still not working."

Ok, that removes a lot of possibilities. Let me go find a wireless mouse. Is that a magic mouse with batteries, or the USB charged one (ie more recent).

On the summary home page, all the collapse and expand options work in the side bar, but not in the summary page.

I have a USB charged magic mouse and a battery powered mouse. I'm currently using the USB charged mouse. I've tried both, and neither of them will exlpand or collapse the items on the summary page.

Found my wireless mouse from work. Charged it up. There is something very intermittent with the expand/collapse buttons. They work until you switch to a different category Banks -> Investments for example. Then it stops working.

If you then click on an account on the side bar and then back to Summary page it will start working again. This may be a regression in the latter Java version, it seems that MD has version "OpenJDK 21.0.2" as the internal version. I can't find any references to this problem in current versions of Java.

Now after switching back from the browser to MD, it works except once in a while it needs an extra click.

Hmm works with my MM on Mac...

@DavidL - What happens if you hold down the option ⌥ key and then click on a header?

Unfortunately Option/Click doesn't work either. I've used MD for years and it's only recently that this problem occurred. Not sure what has changed.

    can you try this..

Firstly, upgrade to MD2024.2(5446) from here (restart) and confirm it's still not working: https://infinitekind.com/preview

Then File/New and create a new dummy Dataset (and restart).... Confirm that click/expand is not working. Then close MD.

From this page, downgrade MD (it will open the dummy account)
    https://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance

for each of 2023, then 2022, then 2021 after install, open MD and the dummy file and confirm whether click/expand is working....

After your tests, reinstall 2024.2(5146), then File/Open your original file....

    ?

Great. So that implies the issue is not a recent MD version for example if you have tried versions going back to 2021

@Stuart, the page I saw said discovered and then had a fixed version listed a couple of years later. The JDK Bug System lists it as resolved. Both items I found. https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8168022
    https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-816659

    Resolved:
    2016-11-07 12:18
Though there seem to be reports of issues after that date.

[DON'T USE THIS FILE - UPDATED IN A LATER POST]

OK, do you want to try this extension - mousetester...
    - Download and then unzip.. make sure the file is called mouse tester.mxt and then double click it, or use MD/Extensions/Install/Install from file. Then click away from Home Screen and click back.. Bottom right you will see a new widget.. Can you try performing the same clicks on the widget that fail on the sidebar... Then copy to clipboard and post here?

I followed your instructions, but I"m not seeing a widget (in MoneyDance?) and MoneyDance freezes and I have to force quit.

Very odd. After restart the same?

After quitting can you grab errlog.txt file from disk and upload that here? (Before you attempt a restart)

OK, believe it or not, but we may have hit a new bug in 5146... When MD is closed, and then when double-clicking an mxt file to launch MD and install the mxt, then MD freezes. This is a new one! 🤷 So - don't do that!! 😉 .. Launch MD manually and then double-click the MXT, or drag the mxt and drop onto the MD register, or use the Extensions menu / install from file, to manually install..

OK - so please Quit MD and manually delete this file:

    /Users/Lautenschlager/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/fmodules/mousetester.mxt

Now Launch MD - confirm all OK....

Now install this v2 attempt.. Confirm it says v2 when installing...

    Let me know...?

PPS - The IK developer has just said this:

"the click handler for that expand/collapse + header is called in the mouseClicked event, which does some detection of whether the mouse moved a certain amount between press-down and release. Depending upon the sensitivity of the mouse that might cause it to record the mouse as moving a bit too much. I've changed this to expand or collapse when the mouseReleased event occurs. This should be more reliable and how events are generally handled on macOS and iOS."

So, I launched MD manually and then double clicked the MXT, but when I quit MD I could'nt find /Users/Lautenschlager/Library/Containers/com... There was no library folder under Lautenschlager. There was a library file under Macintosh HD and another library file under System, but neither of them has a containers item. See attached screen shot.

David, The Library folder for your account is a "Hidden" folder. Hold down the option key and select the "Go" menu in the finder to open that Folder.

Alternatively in an open finder window type command-shift-G and a path window will open, enter ~/Library and this will also open the hidden folder.

or launch terminal and run the command....

    open /Users/Lautenschlager/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/fmodules

Or actually, will work more reliably (note the backslash before the space)

    open ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application\ Support/Moneydance/fmodules

Can you try performing the same clicks on the new widget click text that fail to collapse/expand on the summary screen account widget elsewhere... Then copy log to clipboard and post here?

I’m interested to know if you get the same click log messages and ispopup flags on both MagicMouse and non-MagicMouse?
