Reconciling window closed
In the middle of reconciling a credit card, the window suddenly closed. Moneydance did not quit (or crash) but the reconciliation window closed. When I then went to Account > Reconcile the starting balance wasn't anything at all what it was supposed to be. In looking at the entries, those items that I had cleared were now marked cleared, with many not cleared that were on the statement. What I can't figure out is if it balanced or not, or how to go back to that window.

You cannot go back to a previous reconciliation Window, they are a point in time creation so once transactions change status to cleared you cannot call up that Window as it was.

OK, so since reconciliation was NOT finished, and thus did not have a zero balance, is there anything I can do to fix this? Opening up a new reconcile window doesn't work as starting balance doesn't match anything.

Try this - ignore the beginning balance, as you aren't sure what you cleared to adjust the balance to that. Set the ending balance as normal. Pick from the uncleared items that which is in whatever your are reconciling against. Adjust as necessary to have the difference be zero. Then say done. You can recheck, but that is probably what you would have ended up with had the reconciling window not been closed.

Go to the register and make sure all items in the register that are on the statement are mark as either reconciled or reconciling, i.e. they have a green or orange diamond.
Once you have done this start the reconciliation process enter your ending balance, the starting balance is immaterial.
In the reconciliation window you will either have no items or just items with an orange diamond, it does not matter which. What you are looking at is the difference, if it is 0 finish the reconciliation as normal if not select to finish later, then go back to check in the register since you have either missed something or marked some items as reconciled or reconciling which should not have been marked that way.
To "fix" this is a manual process, the software has no idea what should or should not be marked as reconciled.
