the latest preview verison of Moneydance. It is available fomr the
link below:

<a href=

It contains a number of improvements to the transaction matching
system.

Moneydance will not automatically apply a MERGE or CATEGORIZE
process to a transaction unless you have the preference
"Automatically merge downloaded transactions" set under
File->Preferences->Network. This option was not available in
MD2008. In MD2008 you still had to click the record button for each
transaction as it came in to apply the category or merge the
transaction. If you un check this option categories will not be
automatically applied. However when you click on an unconfirmed
transaction you will be offered a number of options in the accept
dialoge that best match the unconfirmed transaction.

Sincerely

preview
version of Moneydance -- I have build 746.

Also, I did have the preference "Automatically merge
downloaded
transactions" unchecked under File->Preferences->Network.
Here's a
screenshot. I never ever had it checked.

Here's another example:

Here the original transaction is for "Wholefds ...", but
Moneydance has
changed the description to "Walgreens...". I do have the option
of
reverting to the original description, but why on earth would I
want to
have to go through this laborious process every time. And
scrolling
through the list of possible matches (the dark grey lower panel
where I
select a transaction to match to) is also very painful because it
shows
only two matches at a time, and I can't find any place to grab to
make
it larger. The interface in build 744 that had a popup menu here
that
showed everything at once was preferable. I go through my
transaction
every few months, so I have several hundred to categorize, and
correcting each one to the original, and then trying to find a
match to
what I actually want it to match to is taking a couple of minutes
for
each transaction, where it used to just take me a few seconds.
This
means spending 4 or 5 hours where I used to spend 30 minutes. This
is
NOT what I bought Moneydance for!

Please provide a way to turn off matching completely -- it's
much worse
than it used to be! Sorry, I know you guys are trying hard, but
this is
so confusing now that when I look at my register I have no idea
what
each transaction actually is until I select each one and revert it
to
the original!

thanks,

Sorry that we let your query slip through the cracks, my
apologies.
What seems odd about your issue and the screenshots you are sending
is that Moneydance should be giving you 'Original' as a choice for
what to categorize as. For instance when I go to a transaction it
will show a light grey option that says original on it above the
categorize option, if I click accept then it will go with the
original option. I've included a screenshot that shows this
happening. Is this option not the case for you?
Sorry to be so late in getting back to you, please let me know
about the lack of an 'original' option.
Sincerely,
