Stock split causes MD to crash

I imported my QIF file from my very old version of MoneyDance (I think from yr 2000) in to the most recent version (both on MAC) and most of it seems to have imported fine. But one stock that had two stock splits in the past fails to include the impact of the splits on the number of shares. I tried adding the splits manually and it caused the program to freeze, requiring a force quit.
What is the solution?
