Account balance graph stopped working - shows zero values

A few weeks ago I successfully imported 10 years worth of data from MS Money into Moneydance and have been parallel running since then.

The following problem started following latest updates to 2010r3 745 or 6, a few days ago:

I had previously set up and memorised an account graph covering one particular "asset account" over that period (with positive and negative values), and it was fine.

Since the recent updates however the graph has stopped working and shows zero values over the whole period.

The transaction list for the account still looks fine - and even more strange if I set up a Net Worth graph selecting only that account, then that graph is also fine. It is just the account balance based graph that doesn't work.

    Check your version again - you said '745 or 746'. According to the change log for 746, there was a fix that might affect this;

Fixed some reports in which build 745 omitted category-to-category and category-to-account transactions

    Make sure you have 746.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I definitely have 746 (on Windows XP). What I meant to indicate was that, as the 745 & 746 updates were applied to my copy only a day apart and I didn't use the report between the two, I couldn't say for sure which release appeared to cause the problem.

    OK, then, 746.
I can confirm something is broken in the account balance graph at 746 relative to 743. I'm going to play with it some more to try to get closer to what triggers it (which is helpful for a bug report). I duplicated the all zeros graph once, but can't get it back, although I'm seeing other cases where it is ignoring the initial balance and some of the initial transactions.

After a closer look, I don't see anything wrong with the Account Balance graph in version 746. But I did find that 746 reports the balance as zero up to the account start date, while 743 ignores that date. (I think the way it works in 746 is correct.)

So check the account start date on your asset account. Make sure it is on or before the first transaction date.

BINGO! Changing the start date to that of the first transaction solved the problem! Are you in MD support? A quick scan of the forum would indicate you answer a lot of people's questions! Thank you.

Maybe you can help with another Account graph problem I will post shortly re. spurious incorrect values....

No, no. Just another user, like you.
(On the web site, MD support staff's posts have the "Posted by" line above the message in blue. In the email messages, the only way to tell is with their signature lines, I think.)

I just saw trac ticket 2797 for this very issue. It will apparently be fixed in the next/future release (749).

In build 749 the account balance graph will now take the earlier of the first transaction date or the account creation date (set in Edit Account...). It is still recommended to set the account creation date to the proper date.

Dear MD support - as far as I am concerned this problem is now resolved (thanks to ljb). I have adjusted all my creation dates to the date of the first transaction, and the issue has gone away.

However, I can't see how to mark it as resolved (the "resolve the discussion" button is greyed out). So, if it has to be done by yourselves.... feel free!
