balance on sidedbar does not match balance in register
The balance in the register is $10 (making up the numbers) but the balance in the sidebar is $15. I did check to make sure the sidebar is showing the current balance as suggested in other discussions but the difference is still there. It also looks like when I display the summary across all accounts the number from the sidebar is being used, not the number from the register. The account has been reconciled

does the account have a subaccount with a $5 balance?
Also, as you say - selecting balance/current balance/cleared balance can make a difference.

Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Firstly, you could heck the “Side Bar Balance Type” set in the dropdown by navigating to File-> Preferences–> General
Also, on Summary Page in the dropdown next to each account type grouping.
Additionally, could you open Moneydance and choose Tools > Currencies, then double-click on each currency you use to view the historic and current exchange rates?
You should look for any obviously incorrect values that should be deleted, as these will throw off the overall total calculation.
Finally, you should restart Moneydance!
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

There is no subaccount. However I finally did figure out where the extra money was coming from, but I don't know how to fix it.

This is a screen shot from the summary view with the view of the problem account expanded. The VANG INST TR INCOME amount accounts for the difference but I cant figure how to get rid of it. When I try to delete it I get the following message

So the question is now how do I delete the account? Thanks Paul
P.S. I think it got in there when I imported my data from Quicken

Well, if the VANG INST TR INCOME item was a valid transaction, then of course you have to wonder if the difference you encountered was valid.
(i.e. if you want to get rid of it, was it an invalid entry?)
Ok - load the Toolbox extension, go to Currency and Security Tools and note things like "Can I get rid of this security?" - make a backup before you begin of course. That should help you locate what is going on.

It sort of worked. I was still not able to delete the security but I did figured out that if I marked it inactive then the current balance in the side bar and register did match. You can match the ticket as closed. Thank you. Paul
