I used to download TransAmerica 401k account activity via Quicken download files from their website. About 2 weeks ago, that functionality broke; when they repaired the transaction download feature, it now lacks the Quicken format files, and only includes eiither PDF or CSV. After communication with TransAmerica via my employer, it seems like they will not be bringing back quicken download format.

The CSV file format has these columns:
Transaction Type,Date,Source,Fund Name,Unit Count,Unit Value,Transaction Amount

However, if I go to import via moneydance, I am unsure how to match up these columns, as there is no "Action" field to match up with an investment account. Any tips on how to handle this moving forward?

Very difficult for investments with csv. You really need OFX format, or perhaps md+ downloads

Unfortunately it seems TransAmerica is not supported by MD+.

Neither is Fidelity Investments - a lot of infighting going on between banks and aggregators on who gets to be in control of not giving you your data... (that was not a typo, sadly)

Is there any recourse here? Any CSV to OFX converters? I don't have a choice to switch - this is my employer's 401k company that I'm locked into..

Probably manual entry... that's all that comes to mind.

I've looked for CSV to OFX converters for investment accounts, but none of them have been good, and a few were just scams.

For Investment account it not just matter of mapping the fields like it is in non-investment accounts.

Investment accounts are driven by the action field. The contents of this field can only be certain values and these values determine what other fields are available, which are mandatory etc. CSV files generally do no have this field, the only ones I have seen that do are CSV files that have been generated by another personal finance program and often these CSV files are still not quite right for conversion.

So any converter has to try and parse any CSV file you may give it and try to work out what the transaction is often from very limited and imprecise information.
