I upgraded the OS on my MacBook Air yesterday and now I get a java runtime error when I try to load Moneydance. I've attached some screenshots of the error report.

I love this product, but I need it to work! ;)
Thank you,
Ron Neva

Is this a silicone Mac? I see Rosetta referenced in one of the logs. I believe that the latest MDs can run native. I wonder if there’s a problem there somewhere?

I don’t know a lot about it, but do you need/run Rosetta? Can you uninstall it?

What happens if you go to terminal and run

    /Applications/Moneydance.app/Contents/MacOS/Moneydance -d

And / or right click this file and open with JavaLauncher.app
    ?

Ah. I didn’t ask the most important question. What version of md? Are you running the latest 2024.2?

    Hey Stuart.
Thanks for getting back to me.

I had an old version of Moneydance and I’m not sure how I received it or if it was ever paid for. Soooo, I thought these problems might be related to that and I purchased a new license this morning.

Also, my Mac prompted me to upgrade AGAIN, so I did so. Moneydance still won’t load.

What I want to do is load the latest version (which I purchased) and transfer my data.

I have never been able to connect to a credit card company and download info. I have always had to input it by hand so maybe this would fix that as well.

Feel free to call me as well. My phone number is below.

    Thank you,

(I’m not support, just a user, so cannot call you)

I’m not clear. What version of MD do you now have installed?

Your Mac asked you to upgrade what again?

Did you try anything else I suggested in my post?

    Hey, Stuart.

I didn’t realize you were a user and not support. I really appreciate your assistance!

I don’t know what version of Moneydance I have installed. I can’t open it to see. I purchased and downloaded the latest version, but I can’t load that either.

I’m not familiar with terminal mode on a Mac and can’t seem to access it.

My Mac advised me to upgrade again so I did so. Moneydance still won’t load.

I realize you are helping me out of the goodness of your heart and it is much appreciated. However, I believe I need to contact someone at Moneydance support.

Do you know of a phone number or email address for them?

    Many thanks…

    Ron

Sorry. This is it. You need IK support to see this and respond.

Did you try downloading and installing from here:

Yes, I tried that as well. Do I need to send this to 1K or will they see it already?

    I really appreciate your assistance!

    Thank you,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,

To see which version of Moneydance you have, if you select Moneydance in the Finder under the Applications folder, and press ⌘I (that's an uppercase i) it should show you the version, however from the crash report screenshots it looks like you are using Moneydance 2022.6.1. That version was from before we had a "universal" version of Moneydance which runs natively on the M1 and other Apple Silicon/ARM processors without needing Rosetta.

I would recommend downloading the latest version of Moneydance from https://infinitekind.com/download and just trying to launch that to see if it works. If it doesn't, could you send me a screenshot or copy-and-paste the text from the crash report details window?

Please note you shouldn't need to purchase a new version of Moneydance, but more recently versions are much superior anyway :)

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hello, Sean
Okay, I upgraded my Macbook Air to Sonoma 14.6.1. Afterwards, I couldn’t load Moneydance. I can’t open it to see what version I have, but I’m sure it is two or three years old.

I purchased and downloaded the latest version, thinking that might solve the problem.
    It did not.

What I want to do is save the data from my current Moneydance and import it into the new version.

    Can you assist?

    Thank you,

    Ron

    Hi Ron,

Yes, getting your existing data file loaded into a recent version of Moneydance should be no problem. I'd also be happy to refund your latest purchase if we can get the previous version of moneydance working for you.

Due to the nature of the error message, let's first see if restarting your Mac resolves the problem. I think it's very possible that it will. If that doesn't work, how about we try a screen sharing session where I join you and we talk through the issue and try to get the bottom of what's happening? If that would be ok, can you choose the most convenient date/time for you on the following link? https://calendly.com/tikhelp/30min

    Thanks,
    Sean

I set up a remote screen sharing session for 7:15 AM CT tomorrow.
I look forward to working with you at that time.

Just as a data point, I am running Sonoma 14.6.1 (on Intel HW) and MD runs just fine. Using latest preview MD 2024.2 (5146)
