Very slow after upgrade to Version 2024.2 (5172)
Hi,
I've just installed the latest version 2024.2 (5172) and the program has become very slow. With the previous version input was smooth and instantaneous, but now it can take several seconds to respond to a mouse click or a typed character. It took ~1 minute for the 'Done' button to respond after completing a reconciliation. How do I resolve this?
Thanks

Just chiming in that I have the same issue as others here have explained. I suspected it was due to a syncing issue and that seems to be confirmed by the discussion here. This needs to be fixed at the software level. Users should not have to apply kludges to get the software to respond in a timely manner.
For the time being, I've disabled syncing and am working just on local files on my machine, but this is not ideal as I have to manually copy my files to the cloud each time I finish using Moneydance.

2024.4 is painfully slow. Running a python script to update security prices used to take a few seconds and now takes minutes. Generating reports is very slow. Editing transactions in accounts with lots of transactions takes several seconds. Dragging and dropping about 10 QFX/OFX files onto the Summary page takes more than a minute to process. Overall very disappointed with the "upgrade" from the 2023 versions.

We should trouble shoot as it’s fine for me.
what OS?
please grab help/console. Upload that here.
are you using syncing? If so, which option? If iCloud sync, try turning that off, restart, as a test. Did that help?

For anyone having issues with performance, can you indicate the following information?
Also, sending a copy of your console log is helpful, even if all you've done is to start moneydance, open a file, and then send the log.
Thanks,
Sean

I have gone back to using Dropbox for syncing. I am pretty sure I switched to iCloud because of having to do some wacky opening and closing of iOS and macOS apps to get everything to actually synchronize, but maybe that has been fixed. The slowness regularly introduced in the macOS app due to files not being downloaded is too frustrating. I imagine there has to be a better design for iCloud syncing.

@ James Sumners
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance
Can you let us know which operating system you're running on your computer?
Please note: Most users who run Moneydance 2024.4 (5253) on macOS 15 are able to sync their data using iCloud Drive sync flawlessly.

Moneydance version is 2024.4 (5253).
I have recalled another reason why I stopped using Dropbox for syncing. It causes the application to take a VERY long time to close. See the attached video. It shows almost a minute of the "syncing" on close window, and that's after it had already been on screen for at least two or three minutes.
Here's how I do things:
iOS
macOS
My mobile vs desktop usage is quite different. Desktop usage is on a laptop. So I will just close the lid and come back to it later.

@James
Can you let us know which operating system you're running on your computer?
Can you let us know which sync method you are using? Dropbox Connection or Dropbox Folder?
To clarify:
With "Dropbox Connection" Moneydance uses the Dropbox API to talk to the Dropbox service directly. So, although you don't need to have Dropbox actually installed on your computer, you do need to be online when Moneydance is running in order for changes to be synced.
With "Dropbox Folder" Moneydance will just read and write files to your Dropbox folder on your computer, which means that you need to have Dropbox installed and running, but you don't need to be online in order for Moneydance to read and write the changes.
Thank you

I am convinced Dropbox syncing is dropping entries. I am having to re-enter several transactions that have taken place over the past two weeks that I KNOW I have added via the iOS app. But they are completely missing on both apps.

It has been working very well for me desktop, laptop and iOS systems sync fine. Do you have unstable network access? It may take some time to sync across the network if you have slow access.
My suggestion is to turn off syncing on primary machine. Go to dropbox and remove the hidden .moneydance folder. Go to your primary machine and turn Dropbox Folder syncing on. Then open MD in iOS and load the new synced file.
The task switcher works well on iOS, BTW.
I have not tried iCloud syncing but will get around to it sometime.

@James, Usually syncing happens while the file is open and transactions are entered. At the end I only see it backing up. Where are your backups being done? On the system disk? Is it an SSD? How big is your data file.
Run the toolbox extension and use the shrink file option.
MAKE BACKUPS FIRST
